Something else new and exciting! I can't tell yet if I'm more excited about this or the 12" Big Shot!
Quickutz has a new product line called "Lifestyle Craft" that is a home letterpress set-up for the Epic Six. They have a web site with lots of samples and pictures of the products, but no price estimates. Also nothing on if the system will work in other machines. Either way, I'm really eager to see this - I love letterpress and have always wanted to try it!
Awww, thanks? I can't help it. Blame Quickutz and Sizzix for actually coming out with some interesting products this year.
I really feel like the letterpress system *should* work in the Big Kick/Big Shot, but it depends on the height. I would seriously consider purchasing an Epic Six if I had to though just to make this work. I love the idea.

Fun idea but I reckon you could do this with stuff you already have! The Impressabilities from Spellbinder can be used as letterpress plates so that would give you something to experiment with for patterns. If you want to do letters and shapes, I wonder if you could use die cuts, building up a couple of layers if necessary to get sufficient depth to deboss effectively. It would have to be from something that would take ink and then transfer it to the paper fairly evenly - maybe acetate? craft foam? Hmmm, now I want to go play but I don't have time this week!

I think so too. Believe me, I've been thinking about this for a few months, but not enough to actually do any real tests. The one step I always get tripped up on is putting the sandwich together prior to rolling it through without smearing the paper? I'm very curious to see how this is going to work. I've thought too about doing something like the impressabilities or even brass stencils to get kind of a reverse letterpress effect, which I guess would actually be engraving.

This is very exciting for me..... would love to try this out.
I'm hoping it will work in other machines as well since I just got a big shot. Either way, I'm hoping to have an excuse to buy some really yummy Letterpress paper and make some great stationery.
My QK club has been wondering what will be coming out! Thanks for including the link...it looks very cool. I am curious to see what people think of it when it reaches the marketplace. I would be interested if they work the kinks out of the Epic 6. That is one machine I am not impressed with...certainly not enough to replace my Revolution!

I'm sure there's info out there about the sandwiches for Impressabilities in various machines, maybe try looking at the Spellbinders website or do a search on the forums here? I've heard people say that to get the best debossed effect with them it's a good idea to mist the cardstock with water first. I haven't tried them out yet but will probably give in to temptation soon!

It'd probably be the same as a brass stencil right? I don't have any impressabilities but I might play with some stencils & a brayer tonight and see what happens.

I guess so except that the stencil is designed with the pattern areas "missing" and the Impressabilities with them solid, IYSWIM. But in terms of thickness of the plate etc, I bet it's very similar. Did you get chance to play? Hope it worked if so!

Letterpress is one of the things Impressabilities were designed to do. Depending on what look you are going for, I imagine brass stencils would work also. If you already have a Wizard, CB or Big Shot, why would you need another machine to duplicate what your machine already does?

Yes, I think that was HoosierMama's point - the stuff that's coming out has lettering and designs on plates to use for letterpress and she'd like to know whether the physical format is going to allow her to use the plates in her existing machine. The Impressabilities are great if you want to make a snowflake background or something but if you want to letterpress "Happy Birthday" then you need something with that sentiment on it and the new Quickutz stuff will provide for that.

No not yet. I'm supposed to be studying for the bar exam next week, but don't let the sheer number of my posts and tweets fool you. I'm finding myself easily distracted in these last few days, and just want to get it over with. But actually got some real work done last night and didn't get to play.

Ah, isn't that always the way though? Glad you got some work done - good luck with that exam!

Cathy
I did not know that about Impressabilities. And yes, Angelnorth is right, I'm trying to find a way to make work with my current setup. I hope QK is going to offer some plates that allow to "typeset" custom text for things like invitations. Or else maybe we can use custom plates?
I feel like QK/Lifestyle has left a lot of questions unanswered with their launch. I hope some are answered next week at CHA.

I see that this is available for pre-order now. I'm definitely intrigued and want to know more. I guess I'll have to wait to see if this will work with the Big Shot before I make any decisions.
oh me too..I just saw the video for this and LOVE the look it creates, but would be tough for me to justify yet another machine!! I hope it works in the Big Shot!

It DOES work in the Big Shot. Woohoo!!! I know what my next purchase is going to be.
Jeez, I just typed a long post and got the Connection Interrupted thing when I hit Post.
Let me find the PDF I saw about the 12" Sizzix. I read that the MSRP is $350 for the machine and $60 for the dies. Ouch! They're releasing some new Movers & Shapers dies with a new 12" M&S platform. The small shape dies will fit into our Bigz XL platforms, too, which is cool.
There are 4 videos on this blog, on the right side of the page.
After watching all the videos on the new Sizzix 12 x 12 Pro I am disappointed that you still have to mess with making those darned sandwiches......I wish it was like the accucut Grandmark system where you place the die down, material and one pad and cut- now the Accucut Mark IV system is just the die and paper and you're off..... although for the dies with a crease the Grandmark is a better machine.
The reason I make this comparison is that the Mark IV retails for for $395 and the grandmark for $595 with a 16 inch cutting base. Accucut also allows you to create your own exclusive dies as well ;) (I love that!)
Thanks Meg and vensung - now I'm in trouble. LOL. I totally want it! I'm becoming a die cut machine addict. I would be in recovery except I don't want to be. I got all my money saved up for the Expression, now I'm just waiting until fall or Christmas to see if there is going to be a kick-butt sale somewhere on them. The only thing I love more than a new toy is a great deal on a new toy. LOL
Can regular consumer dies (like Sizzix, QK, etc) be used with the Accucut machine? Because it would make sense to go all the way to a Mark IV instead of the big shot pro if it accepts other dies. Because I'm pretty sure the new big shot wouldn't accept accucut dies. right?

Accucut sells a platform for the Sizzix dies. It goes inside the regular tray. They make one for the regular Mark IV and the GrandeMark. It is about $20 . It works fine. It looks a lot like the bottom tray insert in the 12" Sizzix video I saw.
I am curious to see the other platform in the Sizzix video that lets you use the thinner dies. I am hoping this will work in my Accucut. Right now, I have to play around with different "shims".

Thanks!
Are you talking about the multipurpose platform? I think it's a wider version of the platform I have for my big kick. I use that for the thinner dies. So maybe if I used the MPP and the Accucut Sizzix platform, the Mark IV would accomodate everything? Now where am I going to put this!

Yes - I am hoping that is a larger version of the current one, so it will fit the whole tray. I have used the current smaller MPP on top of the Accucut Sizzix adapter. I have the Grandemark that uses cutting plastic, and I just take one of the sizzix cutting mats out of the "normal sandwich". For the most part this works, but some items need a little extra shimming.
Yes, a QK retailer on another board said it did work with the Big Shot/Big Kick (and he sells the Epic 6, so he probably would have loved to say no).
I have really give it a long and hard look at the Letterpress and machine. I already have
more die cut machines so I was thinking about buying the ink, paper, and tools and trying
it in my Big Shot. Price for that would be $60 or $70 dollars. Hate to spend $60.00 for
another diecut machine. Also Big shot works with Cuttleburg and Wizard dies so I just can't
be sure it would work with Epic 6. I went to Va Beach and a shop supposedly had the Epic6. They would finished product but not the machine. I have to wonder that QuickKutz
would put out a machine that would work with Big Shot. Have you or any one seen the
two die cut machines Big Shot and Epic6 to compare. I want to believe they will work together but am unsure about the investment for possibly a dupicate working die cut machine. Any help out there???????Karen
