I had trouble with martha punches too, wrote to martha stewart site and got an email stating they were ek success product nothing they could do about it (i'm thinking maybe send martha down there to kick some punch maker hiney?). Her name is going on these products. Sooooo I wrote email to ek success. Their response was to offer to SELL me more punches!!!!
I had a the MS doily lace that didn't work. I took my (namebrand) cardstock with me to the craft store, told them my punch didn't work, and said I just wanted it replaced. The salesperson took all the punches out of the packages one by one and punched the cardstock. We FINALLY found ONE that would punch the cardstock (...the last opened). I exchanged mine for that one. Lesson: If you buy a punch, be sure to keep your receipt.

I thought for sure this was a joke, you are not kidding, are you? That is a lot of trouble. Thank goodness all of my work, when they have not I have returned them to the store.

It was my dh husband who has an enginering/ mechanical line of work that explained that too me.
That's why you have to do several raps with the mallet on the punch - with each rap you are punching through a different part of the doily punch. Ideally thought - it would be sharp enough that you would not have to use a mallet!;)

At least you got responses from EK or MS. I email Marvy over a month ago about a blue oval punch that won't even punch air and never got a response. I've used it less than 5 or 6 times and it's misaligned somehow. Customer service is obviously not their strong suite. I won't buy any more Marvy punches, that's for sure.
My MS punches (scallop dot and arch lattice) wouldn't punch correctly (cleanly) either. I did the aluminum can treatment and it did help. I'm hoping they continue to punch as I like the designs a lot.
When my (second) MS doily punch broke, I first e-mailed [email protected]. THEY forwarded my info to [email protected], who responded that they would replace my punch. I received a new one in the mail a few weeks later. So far, no problems with the new punch (they sent me a GREEN one).
Suzie-Quzie....love the beeswax suggestion, I'm going to try it. Does that leave any residue on your paper?
I have 6 MS punches and not one problem,(thank God) after reading this thread. I have some small punches I only paid a dollar for, and no problems with them either, I do have one punch, it is yellow, don't know the brand, I got it at Big Lots for $5, it punches 3 sizes of rectangles with rounded corners, I use it all the tiem, but I have to put it on the floor and use foot to punch it thru, no matter how thin or thick the paper. Yes, what we will do to craft...keep up the good work ladies

No, it didn't, but I forgot to mention that I tried it a few times on scrap paper just to make sure.

No! I'm really not kidding!! It's so simple. My husband is an aircraft mechanic and a real do it yourselfer - he's reroofed our house, repaired our washing machine, replaced an engine in an old car -replaced toilets - you name it really.
So when I asked DH what to do - he said - I don't think punching through a soda pop can is such a good idea - but he got out the mallet and showed me how the punch was designed and how I could easily get it to work.

Thank all of you so much....I will check into this...hate paying all that money for a punch and can't use it.........I sure appreciate all the help...again thanks and happy punching.....Jewell
Wow! I had no idea there was this much trouble with punches. I don't have very many but my MS lace doily has always worked like a charm. I got an EK for Christmas, the one with the evergreen trees, don't know what it's real name is, it has not punched one good punch. I'm off to try these techniques to see if I can salvage it before I try exchanging it at Michael's. At least I have the gift receipt...unless I've waited too long...I'll be back to let you know what worked!
Hi Gwen....I hope you can get your punch to work...had to get mine replaced....I like MS products but this was one time I wished I had never bought that punch....but the one that replaced it is wonderful...works great....guess like anything else we can get a lemon....have a wonderful day...hugs...Jewell
they replaced the one that was bad.....write to ms and tell them you are so disappointed in the punch...see what they tell you...hold onto your receipt.....and maybe Michaels will exchange it for you....don't wait too long....
I was looking at my troublesome EK punch and I noticed there is a line a little way from the edge where I always line up my paper. I tried punching with the paper on that line and....it works! Then I noticed my MS doily punch has that line, too. I was always just jamming my paper into it as far as it would go. Guess I'm not very observant!!
I returned a MS punch that I bought at Wal-Mart. Is their quality not as good as what you can get at M's and other places? I would think they'd all be the same but that punch was wonky!! I wonder if it got dropped on a hard floor or something like that and knocked it out of alignment.
Rather than cut apart a coke can, get a small roll of aluminum flashing over in the roofing dept. It's cheap and a lot easier (translated = safer) than cutting up a can. The can doesn't really give you a large piece and the edges ate up my hands.
It did help a couple of big stamps. I tried it on a Fiskars lace doily punch and it seems to be somewhat better. I think the biggest issue for punches is paper. Some of the smaller intricate designs just don't work on heavier paper.
I too have returned an intricate MS boarder punch to Walmart. The SU boarder punches sit around as paper weights. I have recently purchased 2 Fiskars boarder punches at Target for $9.99 and they are the best boarder punches ever. You can actually line up the cardstock or dp with the alignment guide in the front and they punch perfectly. None of the imperfect double cut notches like the SU punches produce.
Glenda I see you're in Hawaii. Hope you had no issues with the tsunami!
No more throwing a punch in the box and trying it later and then "working" on it to get it to punch better.
They cost way to much and if they don't work, back they go. If I'm out of town, I have started opening them and punching something at the store. Makes mail order a bit of a pain though lol
I always thought it was just me that couldn't get a punch to work properly. Funny, we can put a man on the moon, but can't make a punch that works properly or a screen door that won't come off the track. Thanks for the suggestions ladies!
I could not get my punch to work..so not sure..but I have read on here that using a soda can to punch really helps....but I don't know..I did not try it...My punch was terrible.....wish I could be of more help.....
I decided that if I buy and punch and it doesn't work, back it goes. They cost too much to keep if they don't work right. I only buy MS and EK Success anymore, I seem to always have good luck with them.
That being said, I tried the tin can trick. I don't know it may have helped a little but is it was used on one of those huge Paper Studio punches that cuts a trio of ticket shapes.
I would be hard pressed to try it on one of the more intricate punches. Maybe the wax paper/aluminum foil but I didn't have much luck with that on a Fiskar lace doily style punch.
Hi Cyndi...I wish I had the answer too...punches are too expensive to have this much problem....I love my punches and want to get more...but always have save a little or wait on a coupon to get one....MS really has some pretty punches.....they are very delicate...I did not try the soda can...have tried the foil and wax paper but like you it did not help all that much...I keep my receipts for awhile in case there is a problem...let me know if you find a way and I will do the same....Happy stamping....and Punching...

I know this is kind of old but maybe someone will read it and have some insight.
I read elsewhere about some good deals at Tuesday Morning. Not much at ours that interested me except a MS punch. It was $2.99 marked down from $9.99 which means it is hardly worth returning.
It is called a double craft punch, and I do not understand why "double". The name is Cosmos Garden.
It punched ok a couple of times. Most often the punched out section is still attached to the cs - about 1/4 inch on either side. I read somewhere about a pop up punch, but could not find info on the MS website. Is it supposed to be attached, then the top and bottom sort of folded up? Not sure how I would use that.
I guess this is what happens when I buy a bargain I do not really need LOL!
