Help! I just got a the little Blue ATG-50 gun but I don't seem to be able to load it! I followed the loading instructions, but the tape rolls freely on the center spindle so when I let go of the trigger the tape keeps unrolling. It there some sort of trick I am missing to get the tape to lock in place? I have never used an ATG gun so I do not know what is normal. Does anyone know if someone has made a loading video for this gun? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated as I really want to learn to love my ATG gun!!
Did you get this from Tape Depot and did they send you the replacement thicker tape because they were out of the thinner one?
If so, this happened to my friend as well! The thicker tape was just TOO sticky and it would keep rolling. We filled her ATG with my tape (which I got from Tape Depot, but it is the "normal" one) and her ATG worked perfectly.
If you call Tape Depot they should be able to help as well. I hear the Customer Service is great there.
I'm not really familar with that tape gun, but you could try wrapping the tape end over (or under) the spool, depending on which way you already have it. It may not be wrapping correctly.
Also, when you do get it to run the right way, take it to a copy machine and open it up on the glass. Make a copy and keep it in a safe place. The next time you go to refill your gun, you'll have a picture to guide you.
This was way more helpful to me than the instructions that came with the gun!
Hmmmm........that video says it's the ATG-714. That doesn't look like my ATG-50 IMO. :?
this atg gun IS hard to load at first. When I first got this gun, I loved it. I'm not too fond of it now. If you roll just a FRACTION off center...in other words...if you don't roll the roller completely flat, the tape will gunk up OR it the adhesive will start to wound around the roller. When I go to pull OFF the adhesive of COURSE, the tape breaks. I'm having to load and reload it quite often. Very disappointed. and YES, I am using the Tape Depot 1/4" tape rolls made to fit the ATG-50. The atg-7502.
Thanks everyone - I figured out what I did wrong! There was a small raised area on the spindle that fit into one of the openings on the plastic center of the roll of tape. Once I clicked that into place the tape stopped turning and now the gun works great!
i am trying to load mine and am questioning if i did it correctly. after the tape comes out of the atg and goes back in to be re-wound (as the "used" portion), does it pass over the "un-used" portion of the roll? does this make sense?! :-)
I have both the ATG 714 by 3M and the Tape Depot one. Got the Tape Depot one because of the problems with the 3M 714. Does anyone know how to prevent the used tape from winding up every which way on the spool. I am having to reload my tape because the used portions are blocking up the unused portion and sticking to the new tape so it can't come out of the gun. (Got a replacement 714 and it is working fine but since I have the Tape Depot one with lots of tape I want to use it also.) TIA
Just got my ATG-50 - having the same trouble as crafty and bubbles above. Any help would be appreciated. I called them but the message said to email them. So I did that. But, being New Year's Eve, I might not hear back for a few days.

Hummm...well I am on my 4th roll of tape since Oct and have not had this problem. Here are some pics of my gun open, specifically the used tape spool.
My3little monkeys - THANKS so much for the excellent photos! I wasn't sure where the excess tape was supposed to go - on the outside of that spindle or the inside (duh). Couldn't get it to work - had the exact same problem as crafter4life and wasted a lot of tape. I did hear back from Tape Depot and their instructions helped a little, but your photos were the best! TD needs to re-do their instructions - great people to deal with, but the instruction sheet is too hard to figure out.
THANKS AGAIN SO MUCH FOR THE PHOTOS!!! I'm a happy camper! (or taper....)

P.S. - Tape Depot should use your photos to demonstrate how it's done.

Reason: suggestion
I'm away from home so I can't post pics. I cut a rough circle out of a piece of foam and placed it over the take-up reel to control the used tape from going everywhere. I helps alot. I also found that adjusting the tension on the take-up reel (the screw in the center) the tape rolls very smoothly.

Glad it helped. I know I am a visual person so pics are always better than words!
I, too, would love to see the foam insert Diane! Someone on another thread said she made one of acrylic, but I could not figure out how I would be able to cut a perfect circle that would not have rough edges...your foam sounds better.
I won't be home til the end of the month, but I'll be glad to post some pics then. I basically cut a circle with scissors and cut the center hole with a craft knife. It's not very straight or pretty (lol!). It fits snugly over the take-up reel to control the used tape and helps to keep it tight.

YEP! my boyfriend did that for me too in the very beginning...or I should say something similiar. With my scrap chipboard and some extra cardboard pieces. It helps but, I still have occasional problems still.
I have seen some people are having trouble loading the ATG-50. Below are a set of directions we have found that help a lot of our users whom are calling in.
We are presently shooting a video of how to load the devise. If users are having trouble with any of our items, please do not hessitate to E-Mail us ([email protected])
ATG-50 USAGE NOTES: Start by putting the roll of tape on the spool in the middle of the gun with the tape running down clockwise. It then runs on top of the roller closest to it and then under the roller in the front of the gun. The liner by itself (the adhesive gets applied at the point of the front roller) then comes back over the roll which is on the main spool in the middle of the gun and then runs under the liner take-up spool (secure the liner in one of the slits in that spool). Then hold the trigger down when applying the tape (it allows the spools to turn). To stop applying let go of the trigger and pull the dispenser away.
just got my atg-50 dispenser today. The pictures really helped a lot. I thread it wrong and i was like omg. Than i saw the pictures and than i was on track again. Thank you

Finally, I had a chance to take pics of the ring I place on the take up reel to help keep the used tape on straight. I hope this helps.
I cut a ring out of a stiff black foam stamping pad I had lying around. It is not pretty or well made -- but it works!
FYI - if you notice a black band around the trigger, it's a piece of velcro I use to keep the trigger pulled -- I'm all about the shortcut... It makes it easier for me to use.
Sounds like the ATG-50 is the same gun as the Shurtape SD-950, what we call the JVCC ATG1 on our web site, since those are the same USAGE NOTES (word for word) that we wrote up and posted to our web site over a year ago to help our users with the gun. Guess multiple companies are all getting the gun from the same manufacturer.

YOU TUBE has tutorials for BOTH ATG-714 and the ATG-50 ....I suggest you try these videos for easy loading your new TAPE guns. Even though the ATG-gun is bigger, I love my ATG-714...I never lose it, it is the best thing I have found so far. With the tombrow tapes, I would use about 1/2 the tape, and the rest of it would mess up....not very economical in my book....The ATG-guns are far more economical...and easier to use !
