Default Heavy white cs questions

How smooth are the Michaels 110 weight, My Favorite Things and PTI white cs? I use Gina's for bases but hers is a bit too heavy and I'm almost out of it. I'm looking for 110 pound weight with the same smoothness.
I love SU's Whisper White but, as we all know, it's not sturdy enough for card bases! Bazzil and CC Designs look promising too, but are more expensive. TIA!

Cindy, I use PTI white for card bases. It is not silky smooth like the SU Whisper White, but It scores and folds much easier for me than other heavier white CS. I would be more than happy to send you a few pieces of it so you can feel it and play with it.

I've had luck with plain old Staples 110# copy paper.

I'll check those out. I don't really need a ream though, maybe I can get a few sheets of the Staples one. PTI has the option of 12 sheets minimum, I just don't want a bunch of something I won't be completely happy with.

I use the Georgia Pacific #110 from Walmart. It cuts great and is very inexpensive.

One thing to keep in mind when purchasing heavy white cardstock for card bases and lighter for layering on top. In order to save yourself a lot of grief, buy the same brands of each. Whites are different colors and brightness and most will not match each other. And you'll never notice until you try to put them together.

Gina K has heavy bases and lighter for layering. So does Neenah Paper, which I use. I like that I can get textured paper from Neenah that is exactly the same color as the smooth that I already use.

Some companies have tried to strike a balance with a more flexible paper that is a bit thinner than those. Even though a lot of papers have the same 110 pound weight, they aren't all the same thickness.

And as for smoothness...nothing reaches the ultra-smoothness of SU paper.

I really love the Recollections 110# for card bases. It is very nice, but I haven't really tested it out that much for colouring with copics. My first trial wasn't all that successful, but all I did was colour some spots to see if I could get the ink to blend. I didn't put much effort into it. For stamping and colouring, I've moved on to Hammermill 100# digital copy cover. It is very smooth and colours really well with copics. I do also still use some of the Wausau 110# index that I have and it works great with copics and for card bases. The best thing about the Wausau is that it is available in most office supply stores and Neenah makes it.

Is Gina's white layering weight heavier than SU's whisper White? Please, SU, give us a heavier white and cream cs. For sure there are differences in white! But I use the lighter Recollections white for the insides of cards when using a colored base and it isn't noticible.

I had this exact problem - I bought the Hammermill Digital Color Copy 110# at a local paper supply store. So then I bought the 80# and 60# weights (I think from Sam's Club online). Each package is 250 sheets, but they only cost about $9-10 a pack, if I remember correctly. Very smooth surface, much like Whisper White.

I use the 110# for bases, the 80# for die cuts, layering, and the 60# for lining colored card bases, or fussy dies and punches that don't like 80#.
