my lss got some in recently and have broken two trying to emboss the nestabilities. once with cardboard shims and the second one broke using the spellbinders pad thingie. Do you think it's a batch of bad ones? or is this a common thing?
My CB gets a pretty good workout with just about every die & embossing plate/folder on the market and I haven't even broken a pad, much less the machine. I'm thinking your lss must have a bad batch. :-(
I'd hate to think there's a bad batch of CBs floating around. I just bought one for a friend and shipped it across the country.
thanks ladies! we were thinking (and hoping) it was just a bad batch. I know I have used and abused mine and it's still working as good as ever so these two broken ones made no sense.

It may not be a 'bad' batch of CBs. Have you ever seen the way some of the store employees handle the merchandise? I took a punch back to Michael's once because it fell apart just getting it out of the box and clerk told me that sometimes things get dropped. Another time, I took a punch back to Michael's because it was a duplicate size to one I had (the gremlins hid my other one) and the clerk just literally threw it into a box of other returns.
I got my CB last April and have used all kinds of dies, emobossing folders/plates with all kinds of shims and it is still going strong. I haven't broken a plate yet but have thrown some away because they were so scuffed and marked up the cardstock. The CB a 'tuff' little tool!
Good luck getting a good working CB. It is so worth the money spent.
i haven't had any problems with mine, except that the handle keeps falling off (i think that's from my son playing with it though!) It still works fine, it's just a bit of a hassle to keep putting the handle back on...LOL!
My only problem with my CB was the handle falling off. I emailed the company and told them. They right away sent an email back stating they would send a new handle out. I just attached the new handle yesterday....Will see how it works.
I broke my first one within a year of getting it ... no idea what I was doing but I do remember it shouldn't have broken. The whole frame became unhinged and would no longer cut or emboss anything. I called ProvoCraft and they sent me a new one upon receipt of mine. I only had to pay the shipping from me to them. (I kept all the plates so now have extra extra sets.)
I'm wondering if your LSS used the right sandwich stack. You use a different, and thinner, stack to emboss Nestiesthan the one used for cutting. Maybe too much was forced into the Cuttlebug?? I've had my 'bug for over 1-1/2 years, use it constantly for cutting and embo ssing Nesties, and am still using my original plates without any problem. So if the right snadiwch stack was used, I'm thinking your LSS was on the receiving end of a flawed batch.
No, but I am pretty darn sure that I just broke my Revolution. I was working with Nesties, which I have used before, but was embossing a longer one for the first time. I used the 12" platform and cutting mat for the first pass, then placed my tan embossing mat on it and grabbed what I thought was my small embossing plate, but it was the small cutting plate, and when there was resistance in the handle I turned too hard and BAM it is stuck. I took the handle off and I know that the plastic cog is split, but I would like to get the 12" platform out of it so that I don't have to buy a new platform as well as a new machine!
I just spoke with Quickutz and after trying the suggested fix, I still can't get the platrofm out, so I am shipping it out to them for them to fix.
I've found when using nesties in the cuttlebug that the sandwich instructions with the bug for these types of dyes was not good. I broke several B plates using their sandwich stack and came up with my own. Here is a link to my video tutorial on how I use nesties in my bug.
Yup! Totally busted mine the same way! I thought if anything the B plate would break first, but when it broke, it was a piece that holds the tension rod that broke (note: I took my machine apart & was suprised to see that the metal tension rod was held in place with several small PLASTIC plates & two TOO SHORT screws, allowing extra stress on the plastic). Bad design, IMHO.
I switched to the Sizzix Big Shot and have NO problems cutting embossing, etc! I got my new machine with a 50% off coupon at AC Moore. I think Michaels also carries it.
NOTE: I should also mention the Provo replaced my CB, but it took a long time & I just couldn't wait (and I didn't want to chance busting another one, thus the switch to Sizzix).

this is exactly what happened with the ones at the lss.
We used the same sandwich that I use on mine at home so I thought we were doing it right! very frustrating for an expensive item.
