Got my Prisma pencils today and need a little help.
I got my pencils, baby oil, blending stumps & tortillions (? spelling). How do you switch to a different color when using the stumps without mixing them?
Also, do you start at the outer edges and work your way to the middle or is it the opposite?
I can't figure out how to get the shadowing effect. Do you have to use different colors that are close or can you shadow using the same color withing an image?
First let me say, I am NO pro for sure. This is what I have learned...
It is much easier if you have a stump for each color group otherwise you need something like a good nail file or piece of sandpaper to sand the color off your "points". I put my color so that I am bringing it to the middle and then darken where needed...not sure if it is the right way, just MY way. One thing I do know for sure...PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.
I will be watching this thread for more helpful hints.
After you're done with a colour you need to 'sand off' the colour... nail file, sandpaper, etc.. I got a little sanding board with my stumps. M's sells them..
I start with a thick line on the edge of my image and pull it in using small circles to the center of the image. Keep playing until you get the look you want, you can also layer on more colours until you get it perfect!
Good luck and have fun!! I love my Prismas and Gamsol!
Does the type of paper I'm using make a really big difference? All I have is just some cheap cardstock right now until I get my kit at the end of the week.

Yep...I outline my image in the color and then with circular motions move to the inside....and sometimes use a darker color on the outside and a lighter color as I move in....

Thanks for that! I have always wanted to try this technique.

Yes, paper is a very important player in the technique...I recommend Georgia Pacific white cardstock from Walmart or Sams...took me much trial & error before I discovered that paper was my problem in not attaining the expected results.
I've never used any c/s from Walmart..I don't even shop there...but...I do find that a smooth c/s is best...I don't use SU...I think its a poor quality paper (the white)...I buy from my local stamp store and Paper Trey( I've never had a problem using either product)...but some people do have their favorites...
