Good luck! You'll love it once you get used to it! I have had mine for about 2 years and I don't know how I ever lived w/o it!!!! I have saved a ton of money on adhesive!
I've had mine for a couple of weeks and have not used it. I got too frustrated trying to load it...so there it sits. Not sure why I can't figure these things out. :(

Don't worry! It still takes me a couple of tries sometimes! I can never remember which way the tape goes on . You'd think that after loading it 20 or more times that I'd remember, but nope!
If you do a search on you tube there is a video on how to load it. The black wheel on the right has a diagram on it, i shows how to load it.
1. the long rectangle/oval shape thing on the right, turn counter clockwise just a bit (maybe 1/4 each or so) pull up.
2. take you roll of adhesive and hold it in your hand with the start at the bottom facing left.
3. place on the left spool and make sure it clicks in (there is a little piece that kind of clamps oer the edge)
4. hold the trigger down and with your left hand pull the start of the roll.
5. go up over the first roller and down between them and up and around the roller on the far left.
6. continue to pull the tape up around the roll of adhesive and around the one on the right. There shouls be a bit of tape at the end and usually with wrap aound it once.
7. place the rectangle/oval shaped thing onto the right roller and turn clockwise until it wont go any further.
8. to use place on paper, pull trigger and then roll over paper, release trigger and pull up.
I hope this made since, I did from memory. As you can tell I love mine. Probably one of my best tools!
Here is the link to a video I used.
Have your ATG at the computer when you watch it and just follow along with her. You can pause it at each step and then start it again for the next step.
It is so easy. She has great close-ups so you can see exactly what she is doing
Enjoy. Don't be dismayed if at first you have difficulties with it. I've had mine about a month and I'm just now getting the hang of it. I love it and wish I had purchased it sooner.

Not trying to highjack, but wondering - is the ATG heavy? Is it easy to use? I saw where it was mentioned that it saves money - how does it compare with using, let's say, a Creative Memories taperunner?

In other words, do I need one? (lol)
YES, you do...I have been scrapbooking (now cardmaking) for years and this is by far my favorite "TOOL" item purchased to date! I have had my ATG about 2 1/2 years, I just recently purchased the one that Tape Depot offers because it is about half the price of the ATG and I already use their adhesive so I thought I would buy their gun as well. (I have used my old ATG so much the hinges finally snapped and it doesn't stay closed as well!) I can't say enough about this thing, and NO it is not heavy...the size is a little awkward at first, but you will be used to it in NO time!
I also have both the 3M 714 ATG and The Tape Depot one. Got The Tape Depot one when 3M was having all the problems with the 714. The one problem I have with The Tape Depot ATG is that the rubber rollers that the tape goes on are wide and the tape sits on the far right side. I am right handed and it makes it a little difficult to see exactly where my tape will be laid down. I think The Tape Depot ATG also can be used with wider tape so that is the reason that the rollers are wider than the 3M ATG.
An ATG is the way to go! In the first 5-6 months of starting papercrafting, I spent $70.00+ on adhesive. The initial cost is high but the refills are so much cheaper pricewise and lengthwise. I use both 3M and The Tape Depot refills and both are WAY cheaper than the little SU Snail, TomBow, etc.
If you use double sided adhesive often, an ATG is a real 'must have'.
Now just knowing when to start pulling the trigger and where to start. How much pressure should I put? Sometimes when I lift up the adhesive lifts up too and doesn't stick to the paper.
Thanks for these posts! I'm desperately in need of a glue/tape that will actually hold my projects together. So many things are falling apart, esp if I use the Tombow tape on anything textured. It is very frustrating. I am now thinking this may be the way to go.

I'm hoping to get one depending on our income tax situation...any suggestions on the best place to buy if you're in Canada (doesn't necessarily have to be from Canada but shipping costs will factor in).
I just got mine on Wednesday and I love it already. I loaded it wrong the first time, even though I was looking at the picture. The size was slightly akward at first but was easy to get used to. The adhesive is very sticky so I haven't had an issue with layers seperating.
