Good luck getting one! My DH was looking into them for his business and probably will get one at some point. Their goal for pre-sales was $1M and he told me today they have $19M in presales. People ordering now will probably get them second half of next year. Awesome for a new company.
Yes well the glowforge with the filter is on my wishlist - would love to have one of these - so incredible. They said crafter's don't need the 'pro' version. Also, the 'pro' version has some environmental/safety things that are not concerns with the crafters version. ::SIGH - always another wonderful piece of technology LOL::
The only thing I'm not sure about yet re: the glowforge is that, if I understood what I read correctly, the glowforge software is 'in the cloud'. That concerns me because you have to have the software to run the machine and there is a risk if the company were to go out of business that machine owners would no longer have access to necessary software and the machine would be unusable.

I also worry about software being in the cloud. And I also wonder if they will get some early bugs /issues out in the first model - then the next model will be even better. Did you see the part about cutting a cookie?? And taking out of machine and eating it. Wouldn't that be so cute to make matching cookies for a party. Wait who am I kidding - I don't even like to make cookies.

That made me laugh. I bake yeast bread, quick breads, spice cakes but hate to make cookies. Don't like dropping 12 little pieces of dough on a cookie sheet, cooking for 8 minutes then doing over and over again. I do make biscotti because you do them all in one batch and get a bunch in one shot.
I plunked down a few hundred for the v1 SNC when it was new (to crafters) technology and am only slightly sad that there's already a new version.
I'm not even a little tempted to fork over a few *thousand* on a new technology like the Glowforge before it's been in the hands of users for a while. It will undoubtedly have bugs (that will likely be worked out... eventually), and I'm not impressed with the company's responses to various FAQ on their webpage. I want to hear more about the system AND more about customer support.
I love what I saw in their promo and will keep an eye on the machine and software. Right now, though, it's filed under "Way cool! I can't wait to read reports from SCSers who've been using it for a couple months."

This was one of the biggest concerns and that they are going to make their API open source so that if needed you could still get it to work.
The two women who created and who host the online Polymer Clay Adventure have purchased a Glowforge (not delivered to them yet). I can't wait to hear how they like it. Their names are Ilysa Ginsburg & Kira Slye just fyi.
I am not affiliated in ANY way, but I attended their Polymer Clay Adventure last year and I thought it was fabulous, so much so that I am attending their 2016 PCA also. Very professionally done and you get to keep all of the videos forever and very talented teacher lineups. You can check out PCA here if this is something that might interest you: Polymer Clay Adventure 2016 Year 2 Landing Page ? ? Adventure Art Retreats
They also have an online jewelry retreat and sponser an online quilting retreat.

That's a pretty good price for a laser machine in general. I'm using a 30 watt right now that we bought used for $3k and it was built in 1999. A 45 watt brand new for under $10k is a steal! I'm used to Corel Draw for software but I'm sure I could learn another. Too bad I stopped using the laser when I got pregnant because I was shipping about $200/mo on avg. With the material cost is so low it's like 90% profit so you could pay a machine off 2 years at that rate if you didn't keep any profits. All you need is an imagination and some unique designs!
