Does anyone have one of these? I'm curious to know if they are the same thickness as a gel printing plate or if they are thinner.
I have the Gel Press brand, gel printing plate. It is about 3/8" thick, which I think is too big to use in my Stampoholic stamping tool. I think I'd rather have something that is 1/4" or less. (and yes, I did take out the foam pad on the bottom.)
I just measured mine. 1/8 inch thick. I use it in my Tim Holtz stamping platform.
Thanks! I hate the idea of paying almost $5 shipping on a $10 item but nothing else calls to me -- except maybe a barn door. I'll have to think on it a bit.

Just wanted to mention that this is specifically made to use with their rubber stamps. I ordered it thinking I could use it with some stamps I unmounted from blocks. The red rubber did not stick to the mounting stamp. I emailed purpleonion to find out if I was doing something wrong and this is the reply...
You are most likely using it correctly. There is no trick. The clear mounting stamp is to use with my unmounted stamps. There is a slight tackiness to the rubber that allows it to cling to the clear stamp. This isn’t the case with all rubber and especially older stamps or ones that have been removed from wood blocks. I have a message on the website stating this. I have sold hundreds of these that people are able to use but I know that they aren’t successful for everyone using stamps from other manufacturers.

I'm not sure if we're allowed to post anything negative about a company owner here, so this might get deleted. I'm not surprised that she sent a reply like this. I had a not-so-nice encounter with her when I asked a question at one of the stamp expos. I had just bought some of her stamps. She was using Prismacolor pencils, and I asked her a question about blending. When she pointed out the pencil sets she was selling, I told her that those were nice sets, but I already had them. Her reply was, "Well, you didn't buy them from me." I won't go into more detail about my reply, but I will never buy Purple Onion stamps again. I'm sure you can find a similar product somewhere else.
Sorry you had a bad experience, but my interaction with Michelle was fine. I just copied part of her response so maybe that makes it seem a little blunt. She even went and changed the color of the statement I had overlooked on the website so make it more noticeable for others.
Maybe I'll just go with Tack N Peel and use my bare rubber (not unmounted) stamps with an acrylic block. If I start having issues inking that way, then I might bite the bullet. Or maybe I'll get lucky and another company -- one with other items I actually want to spend my money on -- will also start selling a thin version of these gel plates.
Scrapjanny, the only thing I hate more than poor customer service is rude customer service. When I get rude service, I usually complain to the a manager. If I get rude service from the owner, I will never again spend a nickel in that establishment.
Um ut oh. I have the expectation to use it with other brands. I would have to watch the demo by Sandy Allnock but I dont remember her saying it was only for purple onion product. I mean if the rubber is already tacky why not just stick it to the misti door then?
I could swear I tested it with another brand and it worked. Now I to try again. Crud. With my luck I would put something on it like tack it over and it would stick and never come off again.
Wow. That was amazingly rude Scrapjanny. She just assumed you had not bought them from her but who cares if you did or didn't. Having bought from you when you were at the LSS I know how good you are with customers. That must have really chafed your buns.

Since I popped the stamps in the freezer before unmounting them, there wasn’t any sticky residue on the back of the rubber that I tried to use with the clear mounting stamp. That may have been the problem.
But that was the point as I understood it with the clear stamps...they are supposed to be the sticky thing in the equation. A sticky raw rubber could be just treated as a clear stamp in terms of thickness. Which is why I keep mine with the acetate sheet on it so it does not stick to every random dust and fuzz wandering by.

I've definitely used it with Katzelkraft bare rubber. My recollection from the site when I bought mine was simply that she said it might not work with older Purple Onion stamps. I've been very happy with it.
I'm getting ready to convert my wood mount stamps and as I was looking back at past threads, it seems like this product may have solved my dilemma. I'm planning to unmount them with the foam intact and then put the sticker on the foam. So, I'm wondering - has anyone tried this with the stickers, as opposed to the plain rubber?
I have the purple onion clear mounting stamp. I knew beforehand that it may not work on all of my bare rubber stamps but have found it works with most. For the few exceptions I use double sided tape with my stamp positioner or with an acrylic block. I have found it well worth the cost and I am considering getting the larger size too.
