Ok on my FB I rec'd a vid about the new Framelits vs Nesties.. Ok I watched it, but, I want to say ooooohhhhh I am liking those.. BUT with the price diff of about 5 bux with the Nesties you get embossing..
The biggest diff I see is yes the size and no embossing..
TFS the video! I haven't heard of the Framelits even though I've been watching a lot of CHA videos. I would like to try the Framelits. I always like to try a product once no matter the reviews on it. I love my spellbinders and it's become the go-to brand for framing dies for me. However, I'm very happy that Sizzix is expanding their products. Can't wait to try a framelit.

I didn't take the time to listen to the whole video. Does the woman eventually tell you the Sizzix dies do not emboss? I feel that would be a significant point to bring up in the video.
From what I understand, the inner edge of the Framelits are where the die will cut so that is why it does not emboss. Spellbinders cutting edge is set in a tad.
I agree they look nice but I have too much invested in Spellbinder dies to re-buy the same shape. If the Framelits come out in a shape I don't have and think I will use, I might buy a set.
I was at CHA and saw these in action. I have a HUGE investment in Spellbinders and won't be switching over. My thought is that Sizzix is trying to move in to steal the thunder that Spellbinders owns. The dies are a re-make and nothing new or forward thinking. The cutting edge is so small a change, it truly looks like a copy. Just my opinion.
I have seen the ones that coordinate with some new Hero Arts stamp sets and they are high on my list. I have almost 70 (gulp) nestie sets and won't be replacing any of them. I would buy some framelits if I saw a set I really liked. To be honest, I don't emboss much with my SB. I really do need to do that more often.
On that same note, I was at Joann's on friday night and scored 4 SB sets for $2.97 each!!!! Bought all I could find. Then the next day I checked another Joann's but I doubt they ever carried them to begin with. A very small store, but I did find some Inkadinkado 3" sets for 50 cents each. Joann's and Hobby Lobby have a great clearance section unlike Michaels whose clearance prices aren't all that great.
I will be buying a few .. I watched a video from hero arts and will be buying some of the matching sets. Just about any dies that match with stamps are appealing to me .. so who makes it doesnt bother/matter ... just that it is a quality product. I DO like the fact that the cutting part is closer lined to edge though

I love the die/stamp combinations. The price according to the Sizzix site is the same as buying a set of nesties alone. I don't always need to emboss, but I would love to be able to cut more of my stamped images. This is neat and I will definitely be checking this out when they hit retail in the fall. Hopefully they do - I find that a lot of products showcased at CHA do not release on time (perfect example is the infamous Cricut Craftroom - 5 months past the April 1 release date and 8 months since the big press release).
Personally, I am excited about the idea of dies whose open area show you the full cutting surface (as others have explained here). I love and use my Nesties, but also like the option of these new dies for better cutting visibility. I predict some purchases! I truly think both lines are great, just different.

nesties vs framelits
I have a question.
I only own some nesties and when I cut out two shapes such as a rectangle, one small and the other just one size bigger, the bigger shape is just a bit bigger than I would like at times....sometimes I would like the difference in size to be narrower. Are the framelits the same way, or do they have a smaller overlap in comparison to nesties?? Does this make sense?
The beauty of the Framelits is that the cutting ridge is right at the edge, so you get a clearer view of what you are cutting. The individual dies don't emboss, but you can get around this. Here on my blog I show how I did it. Basically, just cut out the next size down shape, place it under your image, and emboss as normal. I did it with a scalloped circle, and used a plain one for the emboss.

Framelits vs Nesties
I have found the answer about overlap sizes, for the small circles anyway:
Sizzix Framelits #657551 Circles
1 , 1 5/8, 2, 2 , 3, 3 3/8, 3 , 4
Varies from 3/8 to inch in sizes
Spellbinders Standard Circles Small S4-116
5/8, 1 1/8, 1 5/8, 2 1/8, 2 5/8, 3, 3
All inch difference in sizes
So this answers the question why some cut out shapes look closer together than others...for the circles anyway. It depends on what company's die is used.
I don't think that Sizzix or any other company offering dies is trying to steal the thunder from Spellbinders. Dies have quickly become a very popular & creative tool in the papercrafting industry. Many many companies now offer dies, some of which coordinate with stamp sets, and some simply create shapes & designs that each company hopes crafters will find desirable for their projects. Just plain old good business competition, which is literally good for business.
It's okay to be 100% brand-loyal for whatever reasons. But likewise, it's just fine to enjoy the offerings from a wide range of styles & companies. As crafters, we're all free to savor the goodies as we wish. ;)
