I have a collection of pretty much all of the SU Ink Pads (the now retired kind). I loved them for a long time, but I notice they don't stamp as clear as I would like with my photo-polymer stamps. Recently, I have considered getting rid of them/ selling on eBay, but I would love to get some replacement colors, specifically in the small 2x2 square style (I just don't use them enough to justify the large full sized color pads, plus I have a very small crafting space).
What are your favorite small ink pads? I have 1 PTI teardrop in Black, which I like a lot, but I have never tried any other colors or any other brands. I would love recommendations of other companies to try out, and maybe some of your favorite colors in them.
If you have a MISTI, don't get rid of them! Most linen pads don't ink photopolymer stamps well - that's why SU switched to the firm foam pads in the full size. But with the MISTI it's so much easier to ink with the cubes and you can overstamp so poor first inking isn't an issue.
I like the Distress mini ink pads, too. But I don't think they are the best for stamping.
I'm thinking of going with Memento dewdrops for the mini size dye ink pads. They come in lots of colors--though those aren't always easily available on JoAnn.com.
Or maybe I'll just fill in my color needs with a few more full-size Close to My Heart ink pads. I don't care for the way they open, but the colors are pretty and so vivid when stamped. CTMH sells minis, but they come in pigment only--and I tend to smear slow drying inks.
I just recently finished cataloging my inks the way Jenniffer McGuire does and was surprised by my findings when they were all stamped out. I have a LOT of ink -it's kind of an obsession. I have old SU linen style, new SU foam style, Distress, Hero Arts, Simon Says Stamp, WPlus9, Altenew, Memento Dewdrops, Fresh Ink, Mama Elephant, Avery Elle, Amuse and Memento Luxe. I was surprised to find that the Memento Dewdrops (that I had rarely used before now) stamped the most solid and sharp with the photopolymer stamp I used for all of my samples. I do think the humidity where you live and of course the paper you use affects the results, but those were my surprising findings.
