I don't wash mine. They are cut in such small pieces that when one is yucky, I will throw it out and use a new piece.
True. And I suppose not only that, but they are comparatively one of the most inexpensive things we use in our stamping, that it doesn't matter so much, eh?
Ok another thing to add to my list. LOL I do not have that punch but I am thinking the tag punch would work too. I use the daubers and I do label them. I also wash those out once in awhile. My biggest problem with the sponges is my cats LOVE them. I know my demonstrator showed me how to use paper clamps to hold on to the sponge so your fingers don't get so messy. I love that idea. I have been looking for a better idea for storing them. Thanks!

My biggest problem with the sponges is my cats LOVE them.
Oh, I thought I was the only one that had a weird cat that loved sponges! We had one once that would steal my sponges and hide them. Then in the middle of the night would take a bunch out and talk to them. It would wake me up and I'd have to take them away from her. Then she got mad at me and started peeing on my stamping stuff so, since we live in the country, she became a barn cat. I was still finding sponges she had hid 2 years later!
I was wondering - do you really need a sponge for each color?
I am not suggesting you use a sponge with dried red ink on it to sponge yellow - but do you think you really need a sponge for each shade of yellow? Wouldn't the ink dry on the sponge after a while?
I haven't tried it, just curious if anyone else has any insights on this.
I am going to check out my local farm and ranch store. I thought the shipping was a little high to justify buying the sponges even though they are so cheap.
My cat grabs them and takes off and I either find them chewed up or in a pile under the dresser. They better not pee on my stuff or they will be banned to the basement!

You could also use a circle punch or cut a square fold on triangle. It is a great idea and really works. I reach for my sponges more often since I have them organized in this way. You don't have hunt for the right sponge. Sure made my llife easier. LOL

If you find at your local store your a lucky person, I've never seen them at a store and I hit all of them. If you don't find them locally, I would suggest either ordering more than a dozen, getting some friends to order with you (or find a horse person that would tack it on to their order) or call Jeffers and see if they would drop the shipping on just a dozen since they are light.
As far as using a separate sponge for separate color families, I tend to do that now and haven't had a problem YET. I would be careful to not use a brilliant blue and then baby blue though.
I know someone once told me these sponges were used for ceramics too so perhaps they are cheaper at a store like that. I've noticed that duel purpose items as a rule, tend to be more expensive when sold as a stamping item. Like a distressing tool is really a thread cutter for sewing, about $1.50 sold at a fabric store or Walmart.

If they don't ship to Canada, just Google tack sponges and see what you can find for Canada. There are a lot of horses in Canada too so I'm sure you might be able to find it there.
Here's another place selling them cheaper- $3.99 per dozen.
Check your local yellow pages or Internet for Tack or Feed shops. The local store where I buy my bird seed is also a "tack" shop (horse supplies) and had these for $3.45/dozen.

I haven't got daubers yet but when I do I plan to label them with my P-touch and store them in an embroidery floss container. I saw it on a blog and thought it was a great idea ;)
I had a cat that beheaded Barbies. My DD would leave her barbies out and the cat would find them...lay his body on the the barbie body and grab the barbie hair in his mouth and just "pop" the head off. Then he would just leave the headless body for my DD to find. He would "hide" the heads and play with them later (mostly at night).
I found barbie heads under the stove, in the bathroom, under the beds...in the cat food bowl...you name it!
Our Bonzer is no longer with us, but this story of the spong thief brings back fond memories. Thank you.
