Encore metallic gold pad vs Brilliance Galaxy Gold
How do these two compare? I have the Galaxy Gold, does the Encore pad offer anything (even a better shade of gold) that the Brilliance one doesn't? What about the silver vs the Platinum Planet Brilliance pad or the Starlight silver Brilliance.
I have both and they are different. The Encore needs to be heat set or it never dries, in fact I end up clear embossing when I use it or it smears. It is also much more gold than Brilliance IMO. The Brilliance dries better but seems more subtle
I didn't heat set the encore very much when PTI released the gold and silver last month. If you slide your finger over the image (after it's dried for a few minutes), a little bit of ink will come off on your finger. I did not have problems with smearing or it ruining the image. It was more like glitter where a little bit just comes off. Heat setting does help. It will depend upon your paper as well. The cardstock dried fairly while the slick and vellums do need heat set.
I Have some encored christmas cards from a few years ago that can STILL smear.. brilliance is what encore was originally advertised to be, shimmer that dries on all surfaces.. (Yes I have been at this to remember when encore was the latest, greatest new thing!)
Brilliance galaxy gold is a nice shiny gold and its other great quality (besides drying) is it will dry on other surfaces like shrink plastic and acetate, and it looks amazing on dark cardstock. It is subtle gold on white cardstock, but lovely on navy blue or black.
Platinum planet and starlight silver are probably close enough that you wouldn't *have* to have both. The "sleeper" color is brilliance beige. It should be named champagne as it is a lovely beige, ecru color on dark cardstock when you don't want glaring white. For bright white stars or something on navy, moonlight white will really show up (it is not metallic, so if you want shimmer and shine, go with platinum or starlight silver)
Betsy
big brilliance fan!
The two newest colors are chocolate or cocoa (a warmer brown than coffee bean) and pearlescent thyme. You really need them all!
Oh for copics. they are suggesting to heat set brilliance. ( I have already called tsuneiko and complained..)
Well, I have both and much prefer the Encore gold. For me it is a much more 'gold' colour. The Brilliance is far too yellowy and I really don't like it and rarely use it. It is true though that you should heat set the Encore if you are using it on coated papers or vellums.
