Not sure this is what happened to you, but I've found that I need tp re-ink my stamp pad OFTEN. Without enough "sticky" on the card, there is not enough embossing powder held on the image, and the heat of the heat gun just flattens out the lines, like they are absorbed by the paper.
Yes, it is shiny and flat. I never thought of reapplying to add more layers, I'll try that. I do add ink to my pad, but maybe not often enough. I appreciate all your feedback. Thank you.
Overheating can also cause embossing to go flat. Heat just until an area turns shiny, then move on. Detail EP is usually very fine, so you could try heating from underneath. It may be the fine powder is getting blown off.

Hmmmmm.....I hardly ever reink my VM and I've never had this proble. I use SU embossing powder. One tine when the EP was really old it didn't work at all-not flat not much of anything. It was SU.

Yup, could be old embossing powder. I've had that problem!
Any uses for old embossing powder, before I pitch some of MINE?
It might be fun to just play with it - layering or making it look distressed or whatever, if you're just going to throw it away, anyway. You may end up inventing a new technique and saving us all from "bad" embossing powder!
