I saw this product called "Stampcritter" in the new Crafts 'n Things mag. You can make your own stamps with it. I was wondering if anyone here had one, what you think of it, and is it worth the money? I thought it would be neat to be able to do my own sayings.
I will be following to see what anyone thinks of this too!! Looks really neat!! My ranch is named A G Critters...for all the regular breathing kind but now i could add one to the other side of my business!! and my hobby!! Hope this thing really works!!!
This is the 1st time I've heard of the Stamp Critter. I went to the FAQ page. 1st red flag - this system makes polymer stamps NOT rubber stamps as it states on the main page. 2nd red flag - on the product page showing the machine, it lists all items included, but doesn't show them. At a cost of $195. + s&h... then 35 per square inch of finished stamp, this puppy would have to produce some fantastic stamps. The cost of the consumables is very high. The descriptive text says polymer but does not say if it is the photopolymer that is supposed to be the best made stamps (where time won't make the stamps yellow or gummy). It may be since it uses the light bulb??
I personally would not jump on this. It'll take a whole lotta convincing for my dollar. ;)

I have emailed them and I did get 2 quick responses, first I told them they didn't have enough info on their website and a video showing the process would be good. Tim (the guy who emailed back) said it is in the works. I also asked if this was offered in stores anywhere and he said not at this time, but might be in the future.
I also asked him to give me more info on the consumables so I could get a better idea of the cost of making the stamps. I haven't heard back yet. I will post again when I get more info.
good job hooked on stampin!! Those are great questions and will help those of us considering it!! Glad you piped in too Southern Storm....great info you dug up....Saturdays are a bit crazy around here so haven't looked at site intently but would sure have to before purchase....hope we get feedback from someone who actually owns one!! VBG
If you click on the "Order Consumables" tab, they are listed. The machine is $195 and comes with an initial supply of consumables, but they are fairly pricey to replace. One would have to be pretty serious about making your own stamps to make this cost effective, but if it works well it could be a lot of fun.
I hope they get a video up soon. Will be watching for it!
Here's the lastest email I received about the StampCritter:
Kim:
Thank you for pointing out the rubber vs. polymer stamps miswording on our site. We
have corrected that to reflect this-we do use high quality photopolymer with our
stamp making process. We want to make sure that our stamps hold for a long time so
that you can enjoy and use them.
I also wanted to point out that while we state that our stamps are on average .35 an
inch, we are being very conservative with that number. We think that once a person
becomes versed with our process, the price will drop down to about .20 an inch.
I believe that your previous questions dealt with more information on the Stamp
Critter. As I stated, we are in the process of putting up a video showing how the
stamps are made. We are a bit overwhelmed right now with holiday shoppers and hope
to get the video out soon.
If you have specific questions, please write back and I will answer them as best I can.
The site now says to make photo polymer rubber stamps. They also have a yahoo user group started, but now much activity yet. I'm supposed to get an email when they put up the video, so I will keep you all updated.
Here's the lastest email I have received. I also offered to test run one of their machines, do you think they will take me up on my offer?

Thanks so much, Kim, for keeping us updated. If you email them again, you might mention SCS and the hoards of members here. They could make mega bucks here when they get their info in sinc. ;)
May God bless, Sandi

I think I'll go ahead and order one. I would like to be able to produce my own designs without having to actually "cook" rubber. I am wondering if heating the polymers is a smelly/toxic venture - I will plan on using the porch. (It's 80 degrees here today, and people are Christmas shopping in shorts and flip flops - not very Christmasy.)
Cool, cool, cool!!!! Being a chicken, I will wait to hear feedback on this before I take the leap. But oh, it makes my heart pitter patter just thinking about making my own stamps!
I always thought making my own stamps would be super cool, not sure if I could ever afford the price tag but it seems like a neat idea. I'm definitely going to watch how this continues and wait to see reviews on the system.

Can you find out what is the largest size stamp you can make with the Stampcritter! Thanks!
I did receive another email, this biggest stamp you can make is a 4x6. Here are some more of the questions I asked. Tim's response is in capital letters -
First of all - do you have any kind of return policy. YES. WE HAVE A 30 DAY RETURN POLICY, THE ONLY ITEMS NOT COVERED BY THE RETURN POLICY IS THE CONSUMABLES. WE WILL BE POSTING THE RETURN POLICY ON THE WEBSITE. What if I purchase it and I don't like it all? No offense. Or it simply doesn't work or
doesn't give me the quality stamped image I like. I don't want a hassle
trying to return something I bought on the internet.
Second - I asked you if this would be available in craft stores - you said
that is possible in the future. I don't want to spend $200 now when I
could get one for 1/2 off with a coupon at Joann's or Michaels or some
such place. WHILE WE HAVE NO PLANS AT THIS TIME TO SELL STAMP CRITTER AT JOANN'S OR MICHAELS, IF WE DID, WE WOULD HAVE THE PRICE SET SIMILIAR TO CROCS SHOES. WHEN YOU BUY THEIR SHOES, IT IS THE SAME PRICE AT WHATEVER STORE YOU BUY THEM IN. WE DO THIS FOR THE VERY REASON THAT YOU CITED. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT OUR POLICY RIGHT NOW IS TO SELL ONLY ON OUR SITE AND AMAZON. THE PRICE IS THE SAME BOTH PLACES.
Third - I still haven't seen the process of making the stamp. And where
am I getting the images? Are they just the ones on the CD that comes with
it or can I design my own? Am I just saving my image as a jpeg or what?
How do I get my images into your machine? What if I just want text? Can
I type it in WORD or do I use software that comes with the machine? How
detailed can I get? Are we talking just simple line images or will it
make stamps with shaded areas? HERE IS THE PROCESS IN A NUTSHELL. YOU, ON YOUR COMPUTER, CAN DESIGN OR USE ANY STAMPS THAT YOU CURRENTLY HAVE ON YOUR HARD DRIVE. YOU THEN PRINT THE STAMP IMAGE ON VELLUM PAPER ON YOUR PRINTER. YOU THEN, USING THE STAMP CRITTER AND THE CONSUMABLES, USE THE VELLUM PAPER AS A NEGATIVE. THE PROCESS WILL ALLOW YOU TO CREATE OF STAMP OF WHATEVER IMAGE THAT YOU CAN PRINT ON THE VELLUM PAPER. THIS INCLUDES SIMPLE STAMPS, TEXT OR PHOTOGRAPHS, ETC. THE ONLY LIMITED WITH THIS STAMP CRITTER IS THE SIZE OF THE STAMP. THE MAXIMUM STAMP SIZE IS 4x6. WE ARE ALSO FINALIZING AN AGREEMENT WITH A CLIP ART COMPANY TO PROVIDE A CD WITH 1000 IMAGES ON THE CD. IF SOME PARTY SHOULD BUY THE STAMP CRITTER BEFORE THE DEAL IS FINALIZED, WE WILL SEND THEM THE CD AT A LATER TIME IF THEY REGISTER WITH STAMP CRITTER.
Ok ya'll.. I've found another polymer stamp making system.
After checkin' in here, I went to.. www.crafttvweekly.com
I love that site! I haven't visited in a while so I checked the archives. Watch the 11/23/07 webisode by Tricia Morris entitled: *Stamp Your Art Out*
To the right is a link for the JustRite Stampers. The cost for this one is $399. At least we can see Tricia demo their process. As explained on their website, they're also in the process of making their own video demo.
Soooo... there may be even more make-your-own-stamps machine companies popping up.
I'm marveling and sooo tickled at how fast the stampin'/craftin' industry has advanced and mushroomed to make all the fantastic *stuff* that didn't exist to feed our adiction just a few short years ago. Thank God for Tracy and Daven and SCS. SCS has played a major role in the supply/demand process. SCS wouldn't have ever made it if SU! wasn't quality mdse. Just look at our member companies and all the other ones that ARE because of SCS!!
Oops, sorry for shiftin' gears... ya'll just go watch Craft Tv Weekly and enjoy!
May God bless, Sandi

Too cool! I don't think I'll be making my own in the near future, but what a great idea! TFS!
This link gives instructions on how to assemble your own polymer stamp making kit and has consumables for sale, but also tells you where else you can buy them.

Fascinating!!! I'll be keeping an eye on this thread!

Very Interesting, I'm going to read this for sure! TFS!

Wow, thank you, Cheryl... how kewl!! I read all the inst. pgs and the supply pg. I didn't go to Stewart Superior to check prices on larger quantities. Looks like we don't need the $300+ investment after all. We all have the sun, binder clips & popcicle sticks. I wonder what the ratio of glycerin to water is in that *glycerin water*. I didn't add up the cost of the supplies, but I WILL! ;)
I don't have a laser printer, but DD does!! Hmmm, I may ask for the smaller amt. of these supplies for my b'day. It's not til May so I'll have time to *create* my own designer stamps!!! WAHOO!!!
May God bless, Sandi

Reason: rearranging my ramblings
I fergot to add that I have 2 pcs of glass from an OLD metal, folding, picture frame! ;)
I got to thinkin'... those inst. says to mount the new stamp onto cling foam or a wood block w/ rubber cement. I wonder how flimsy/durable these stamps are. I store my clear stamps in CD cases and sometimes they're boogers to get off the plastic. I'd be in orbit if I went to all this trouble to make my own just to rip them to shreds from a CD case.
I wouldn't want to put them on wood. I've UM all my rubbah cause I DO NOT like stampin' w/ wood blocks. (I was forever getting that edge/shadow mess around my image.) Well.. all somethin' to think about.
May God bless, Sandi

Reason: disentanglin' my ramblin's
Making your own stamps! Interesting indeed. I'm always on a hunt for a certain saying or kind of stamp and never seem to find what I'm looking for. It would be awesome to come up with your own designs!

I am exactly the same way! I seach my drawers and sets for just the right size/word combo I need for a special card - how cool to be able to make a stamp that said just what you wanted to say, in the size you wanted using a special font. Oh, my - the thought of it makes me ALMOST weak enough to be the first one to buy and try this gizmo. ;)
Surely there is someone out there willing to do the dirty work and test out this puppy for us!!! We need to know if if we HAVE to have it. Ha!! ;)
I think they should give us ladies a sample one to test! Like someone said earlier, they would make a lot of money from us if it actually was worth the investment!
