I have not bought these brown mats, but have seen them at HL and was wondering how many people really use them. I get a small imprint on my cuts w/o using them. Do you use them?
Thanks!

there is a pdf document on the spellbinders website that tells all of the sandwiches to use with each machine and where the rubber mat goes in the mix.
Is the tan mat that you are talking about the one that came with the CB?
It has to be cut to size, right?
NO, Tan mat is from spellbinders. Do not cut it.
After you cut out your nestie shape you leave it in the nestie, place the tan mat over it add 3 sheets of cardstock on top then your b plate and run it back through your CB.
Another nice trick: before you remove your shape from the nestie, turn it right side up and using chalks add a little color just around the inside edge of your nestie then when you pop it out you have a nice crisp line.
A plate
die..cutting side up
paper
tan mat
3 sheets of cardstock
B plate
This was my sandwich for embossing until I discovered that a single piece from a discarded cereal box made a nice deep emboss - this replaced the 3 sheets of cardstock. The only reason I mention it is because it makes for less to remember when I want to emboss.
Does the Big Kick/Shot also require the tan mat(s) for embossing with Nestabilities?
When people list a "sandwich," is it asssembled as it is written (top on top and bottom at the bottom of the list), or is it assembled with the first item listed on the bottom?

I do not know about the Big Shot/Kick because I haven't tried the nesties in there yet. I just always grab the Cuttlebug for some reason. LOL!
Your 2nd question is a good one. I know when I give someone the "sandwich", I always list the plates from the BOTTOM (the PLATFORM where everything sits). So in other words, you are building from the bottom to the top.
I do not know if that is what everyone else does or if it even matters. Hmmmm.
Is anyone listening out there that can help us on that?????
The sandwich is from bottom to top. Keep in mind that the recipes are not set in stone. My Big Shot may vary somewhat from yours. If you are not getting the look you desire or finding it too hard to get the sandwich through, make adjustments a shim (piece of cardstock) at a time.
Also, I found a recipe that I'm going to have to relook for that allows you to use the new crease mat (replacing the tan) and it will cut and emboss with one pass.

Careful! I cracked my B plate into 4 pieces trying this LOL~
I use
A plate
B plate
nestie grooves up with paper in it
tan mat
B plate
3 or 4 pieces of cardstock
I have also found that if I emboss first and then cut, the paper never falls out of the nestie.

Good idea. I hate it when my paper gets askew when I emboss it and I have to start all over again.

Alice, I have a Big Shot and I use the Spellbinders tan mat when I want to emboss with Nesties.
When I first got Nesties I tried the recommended sandwich recipe for the BS but I wasn't happy 'cos I got the embossing lines even when I just wanted to cut. So I played around and found what worked for me - so these are the sandwiches I use in my Big Shot, from the bottom up:
TO CUT
Multi Purpose Platform open at Tab 1
5 pieces of CS
Clear mat
Die ridge side up
CS
Second clear mat
that gives me a perfect cut - with no embossing lines.
TO EMBOSS
MPP open at Tab 1
5 pieces of CS
Clear mat
Die with CS piece still in it
Tan mat
Second clear mat
I get a great deep embossing line.
I would experiment with the number of pieces of CS to see what is perfect for your particular machine. I just happened to have some old pearlescent CS that was the perfect size and I just kept adding a piece at a time until I got the perfect recipe for me.

I would love to know how to cut and emboss with one pass on the BS. I just started investing in Nesties at HL, but they didn't have the tan mats. Maybe next trip!
