Since I'm so new to this, I'd like some advice. When using colored pencils, do you just automatically reach for your watercolor pencils instead of regular colored pencils? It seems to me that using watercolor pencils would give you the same effect - but with the added value of being able to "water" them for a different effect. But is there a time when you prefer using just the regular pencils ?
I have a set of Kimberly watercolor pencils, and I have a set of Crayola regular colored pencils. I'd like to buy a set of Prismacolor pencils, but the watercolor pencils are more expensive than the regular. Do any of you have a preference for using one instead of the other?

I always feel unless you're amazing at using regular pencil crayons (like the memory box people) that get the really intense colour, the pencil-crayon look isn't a finished enough look for my tastes.. watercolor pencils don't necessarily give a "watered look" it allows you to blend away the pencil lines... i've NEVER, EVER used regular pencil crayons..

I just ordered a Dove Blender pen kit, and am excited to try it out on my watercolor pencils. Have you tried using OMS for regular colored pencils? Does it give you somewhat of the same effect as the watercolor?

I've been stamping for 10+ years and I use my watercolor pencils and blender pen much more than anything else. I hardly ever use markers, but I like to "dye" my ribbon with markers to match my colors. I use chalks a lot too. I prefer a soft look to my cards and use a lot of the softer colors, I'm not into the intense colors. Just me I guess.
I love the su watercolor pencils and their blender pens hands down!!!!!
I bought my WCP over 10 years ago and they still work the same as the day I recieved them!!!!!!! It is worth the investment. I have gone through at least 4 pack of blender pens.
You will find you use many different things throughout the course of stamping and that finally you find it hard to not go into the craft isle without someone coaxing you out telling you that you can do it you don't need that $1 stamp.
Good luck!!

I have Faber-Castell watercolor pencils, Prisma Pencils, SU watercolor crayons, Copics, and SU markers and I use them all. For me it depends on what I am coloring and the mood and look I want for my card.
i own both the WC crayons and the WC pencils. i like the crayons for some images better ... larger images and ones i want to be more vivid. the pencils are better for more detailed images and if you want a softer look. i also have the MS markers that i have used for coloring. i just can't justify the expense of copics.
I also started with Kimberley watercolor pencils since they were cheap. Well, I discovered you get what you pay for! Once I tried Prisma, I was sold!!! I bought them 1/2 price as a Hostess item and have never looked back. I was absolutely amazed how much more professional my coloring could look--whether Dove Blender, paintbrush with water, aquabrush--whatever!
As far as what I reach for? Depends on the look I'm trying to achieve... I've got those + chalk pencils, chalk (dry or with Dove Blender), watercolor crayons, regular Prisma pencils, Tombow markers you name it. They all give a very different look.
HTH! :-)

I like the look of the watercolor pencils so much more than regular colored pencils. Although, what I reach for the most are my watercolor crayons from SU.
