I have a Big Shot and was wondering if I still need to keep my Cuttlebug? I am trying to pare down so I can see what I have and use it. I am thinking with all of the shims and platforms Big Shot has now that I don't need to have the CB anymore.
Katie, I have had my trusty Cuttlebug for about 8 years, and it's still going strong. I love that it is so portable and easy to take out and put on my table when I craft. I don't have a dedicated room, and bring stuff into a game-type table in my living room when I make cards.
A while back I dashed down to Tuesday Morning when I heard they had Big Kicks (like the Big Shot) on sale for only $29.00! I was thrilled to get one, but it's still in the box, waiting to be a back-up when my little Bug finally quits.
So, I would have a hard time telling you to get rid of your Cuttlebug!

I would say if you don't need to keep a backup and are serious about paring down, to get rid of it. I haven't used my CB at all since I got my Big Shot.
No. I have a Big Shot, and it does everything I need it to.
Why would you need another machine? Extra expense, extra room.
If your Big Shot breaks, then ok, consider another machine, but I think a Cuttlebug is a downgrade from Big Shot since it has limitations on width and thickness of what it can do.
I love my bug which I got about 7 or 8 years ago. We go south for the winter and it still goes into its original box which also holds all the plates. I love the portablility of it.
I purchased a BS this winter or rather hosted a SU party at the house and got my BS for 9.95 lol.I wont take that with me when I go back next winter because the bug is more portable, and there is one in the club house where our stamp group meets.
Until it dies I will keep my little bug, who knows maybe the BS will be the one to breakdown first.
A few months back I did a paring down. I just got rid of my Big Shot and kept my Cuttlebug. I love my CB like I love my favorite pair of scissors. I know all the sandwich combinations by memory. I know how she's calibrated. I didn't want two machines any more. I kept the one that I use the most. If you use the Big Shot the most then you probably don't need the Cuttlebug.
I don't really use my steel rule dies. I am a fussy cutter & Cameo user. I mainly use my CB for embossing. It didn't make any sense for me to a keep the Big Shot when I can give it to somebody who definitely could use it.
I was keeping my Big Shot for special techniques and a backup. I found ways to use my Cuttlebug for those techniques. I thought if my Cuttlebug breaks I will either get another one or there will be something new on the market.
I would say keep them both. Cuttlebug is great portable cutter. I have it set next to my Big Shot and use the Cuttlebug to emboss and Big Shot to cut. That way I don't have to change plates around. But when I go to a crop I take the Cuttlebug.
I had the CB and just got a BS and at Christmas I was cutting some little dies of the top of a Christmas ornament and the BS was cutting too tight leaving lines around the side that I did not like so I switched to the CB and it looked great. And I use it for embossing and the BS for die cutting. So keep it, you never know!
I love my big shot. Why not put the CB in the closet? Then you have a back up. I would hate to go without my die cutting machine. I bought a Vintaj machine (which is basically a big shot) at Michaels for $24.95 when they were getting rid of them. Wish I had bought the other two they had because I have friends who would love to have had a back up !
