So I saw a cool product called a glue sponge for adding glue to tiny die cuts. I wasn’t going to pay for one then pay the exchange and shipping to Canada. So I made my own for about $5 CAN. I bought a locking lid container from Dollarama, it was in a pack of 2, measuring 3x4x1.75”. I bought a pack of SYNTHETIC sponges, according to the tutorial I saw this is important as a cellulose sponge might mold over time. I cut mine down to fit in the bottom of the container. The sponge was originally about 1.25” thick so I cut mine down to half just so I wouldn’t need as much glue to fill it. You could leave it full thickness, it will still fit. Then I misted my sponge with water as the glue I was using, Collage Medium, is pretty thick. I worked a 2-3 tbsp into the sponge with a palette knife. Then I tried it out and it works amazingly well! Yahoo! Just thought I’d share it in care anyone wants to make one.
Totally cost (incl tax) $3.11 plus Collage Medium (on hand). And really it’s less as I still have another container to use! You could use another glue if you wish, I’ve mostly seen plain white glue used. But I always use Collage Medium for a wet glue for tiny die cuts so I figured that should work fine. And it did! Even with the water I added, it doesn’t warp my paper. Probably because so little glue is added. You do have to be quick about using the die cut though or the glue will dry before you stick it down.

After doing a search I see that FyHal Glue Sponge was a new item at Creativation 2019. Honey Bee Stamps has it for $6.95 plus shipping; Amazon has it for $9.99, free ship for Prime members.
I think I will try making my own using fancy white scrappers glue that I have purchased that have nozzles that plug and are a pain to use. I have the tub, and the sponge already, so it should be fairly straightforward to assemble.
After doing this I will likely discover that it wasn’t all that easy, and I’ll dnd up buying the real thing!
I watched a video from Creativation ‘19 and the persudoing demonstration said to put diecut on surface of sponge (which is saturated with glue) and “tap, tap, tap” the diecut on the sponge, remove and place on project. She used finger for tapping larger die cuts and tweezers for small pieces.
It was pretty impressive!

Rebecca Ednie, how does the glue hold up in the container? do you have to remoisten it every time you use it, or does it last a long time without respraying it?
I have an old Martha Stewart Glue Pad (the size of a stamp pad). It was for using with fine glitter. I never thought of using it for little die cuts. I will give it a try. It came with a bottle of refill glue. I don't know what kind of glue it is. There were others on the market as well. It is not the embossing ink stamp pad...it is glue.

I had one of those, too! I never even thought to use this. Now to find it! Thanks for sharing this idea.

So far I’ve had it for a week and I’m amazed that I remember to reach for it and how well it works. The sponge does feel a tiny bit crunchy on the very top surface but when I press the die cut down, it works really well. It even worked for lace! I may have to spritz it once in a while but so far so good. Definitely cheaper than buying one.
I’d like to report that it’s still working great. I made it the same day I posted this thread. So far so good! No mold or smell, seems the same as the day I made it. The slight crunchiness I reported before seems to have gone away with repeated use and doesn’t return even though I don’t use it more than a few times a week.
