Smile die cutting

For Christmas my hubby is buying me a die cutting/embossing system. I really don't know much about them. I know I would like to die cut alphabet letters and do some embossing. Not sure what else.
Please let me know your thoughts on which one is the best.
Thanks

Well, "best" is going to depend on you. :-) The Cuttlebug is the least expensive option, and I have been extremely happy with mine. It is small, lightweight, and has served admirably over the last year. It takes all types of dies and embossing folders. You can read more than you'll ever need to know in the Cuttlebug FAQ, linked in my signature.

Others prefer the Big Kick/Big Shot (same basic machine). They like that it is heavier and sturdier. It is also more expensive, but not outrageously so. If you have plenty of room to leave it out, this may be the best option for you.

And then still others like the Wizard. Check out EllenH's blog for the best overview of this machine.

I have a Cuttlebug & a Cricut and I definitely prefer the Cuttlebug...it's so much more convenient to use because it's small enough to sit on my counter all the time & no cords, outlets, etc. to deal with.

I agree. I have been a avid Sizzix lover since it came out, then got a Cuttlebug because it was pretty inexpensive and I liked the background embossing thingees. Now I love it because of all the above mentioned reasons.

I have a Big Shot/Big Kick and I love it!!! I can vouch for its sturdiness, ease of use and its ability to use any brand of die including Cuttlebug dies and embossing folders.

I have the cuttlebug which I love...had I had the space to leave it out I probably would have gone with the BigKick because it does seem a little sturdier...but pretty much both have dies that are interchangable so if you bought one you can still use the others dies...

the cricut is nice but it doesn't cut chipboard...

Cuttlebug. I have and Most of my customers now have it also. Really wish we sold them as I would have made a fortune. In fact they first came over to see it after I sent them a card with it. They all were into dry embossing. I wish the light tabel would have sold as well. I have demod that a few times but no luck. But just showed them once how to use the cuttlebug and off they were to get one.

Big Kick here - I love it. It is very sturdy and will use all the other companies' dies as well. Costco.com has the Big Shot (virtually the same machine - different colors) on sale right now and Joanns.com has the Big Kick Starter Kit on sale as well.

Default Die Cutting

I have the Cricut and Cuttlebug and love them both. The Cricut is on sale at Walmart and on line so shop around. I never buy letters and numbers and I make my own boxes with Bag, Tags, and more. I use the Jasmine and Basic programs for letters the most and Bag etc for the rest. I love the Cuttlebug for embossing but it is not the greatest die cut I have used.

LOVE my Big Shot/Big Kick--I haven't found anything I can't cut or emboss with it yet. My son, however, has plans to get me a CRICUT for Christmas! Do I need it? No. Would I buy it for myself? Probably not. Do I want it for Christmas? ABSOLUTELY! Two more months to wait . . .

I have a Cuttlebug and absolutely love it!!! I was originally interested in just the embossing folders, but now I have all sorts of die cuts and alphabets too. The prices are affordable and it's very easily stored, and is easy to use.

While you are doing your research. Don't forget to check out the Spellbinders Wizard. If you ask me, it's the best on the market. It's made of metal. No plastic parts. So it will last a long long time. This machine was made to be universal. The Spellbinder Dies are AWSOME. They cut and emboss.

Check out the video here http://www.spellbinders.us

Just do all your research first and invest in a machine that fits your needs for now and the future.

Shop smart.

I have a sizzix original, cuttlebug and the big shot. I would get the big shot in a heartbeat. I use the sizzix and the big shot the most. I don't like all the plates that come with the cuttlebug. I do have room in my scrapbook area....since I have all three of them sitting out. My suggestions....is the big shot or big kick!
