Smile Hope this helps....

Yes, I have one and I do like it. Have not used it often though.
Tips...
* one side of the templates have ridges. Put that side down on the paper so the cutter thingy doesn't hit any bumps.
* use masking tape to stick your paper down to a piece of cardboard.
* use masking tape to stick the template down too.
* even pressure helps.

I cut some ovals for "framed" cards. My main problem was not with the cutter, but I had a hard time lining up the oval template on a card. Finally decided that the trick is to first cut an oval from a large piece of CS and then line up the oval frame onto my paper cutter to get it really perpendicular.

Smile Fiskars

I have the shape cutter and I do like it. Here is another tip - after you have used temporary tape to tape your paper down - put the template down so you can read the word Fiskars on the top left. Then make sure the blade is facing the way you want to cut. I am right handed and always go to the right first. Enjoy. After you get the hang of it you will like it and the templates are very reasonable. I have all of mine in a big notebook.

Default FiskarsTV video tutorial

Hi!

I don't have the Fiskars Shape Cutter, but there is a how to video on Fiskars TV!

Fiskars TV -video tutorial

Then look down on the left hand side where it says How To Videos.
Click on Next.
Then click on Ultra ShapeXpress (I'm assuming that's what your tool is called???).
Also, in the top righht hand corner, they sometimes have live online help, or else you can leave a message.

Hope this helps! Tell us how you make out with it.

Had one. Hated it and sold it on e-bay. I tried it again and again over the course of a year and just couldn't get it to work for me. I have heard it takes a lot of practice to get the hang of it. Hope you get the hang of it and just LOVE it!

I use mine all the time...love it! Just make sure you can feel the fiskars bumps or you have the wrong side up!

I found I was pressing too hard at first. Once I found the right pressure, I love it! I must mention I am Coluzzle inept, so I was thrilled to find another way to cut circles/ovals!!!!

I've also heard using a glass cutting mat helps, it's smoother. I have one & have used it a few times, but I'm waiting to get the glass mat before using it again.

Maybe it's a Penner thing (my maiden name), I hate mine too. Being a Penner (Menno) I'm too cheap to get rid of it! I keep hoping that someday I'll learn to like it and use it more often.

I hated mine. Somehow I kept cutting the template instead of the paper. It is in a drawer.......you are welcome to it.

I hated mine too. I tried to make ovals for my Christmas Cards last year, and I wasted so much Whisper White Cardstock trying to make these. Mine would never cut the whole oval through all the way, and I would have frayed ages. I tried new blades, I held it right...nothing worked. I got a CM Cutting System recently. My fiskars one is sitting in a drawer...good idea to sell it on Bay! LM :-)

I bought mine over a year ago and hated it. Then my sister started taping DIY Scrapbooking for me and I watched a demo of it just recently. I went home and played with it again and now "I get it!!!"

It takes a little practice. I use construction paper and let my girls play with my cuts. I'll make card makers out of them before you know it!

Anyway, DIYnetwork.com has the shows listed with tutorials too.

Lisette

I bought one today at Costco (they had a coupon). Came home, watched the video on the fiskars website, tried some diamonds and circles and liked it. It seemed to me to be a much smoother cut than the coluzzle. I think watching the demo helped alot.

I like it.

I used to use it all of the time to cut out titles (back before personal die cut machines) it is great for that, too.

My suggestion would be to use a glass cutting mat under it.... it moves so much easier than using a self-healing cutting mat under it. I bought one at Michael's with a 40% off coupon.

I dont buy anything by fiskars anymore. I used to like some of their products but they ended up being donated or thrown out because I didnt like the quality. This cutter gave me problems finally I tried a coluzzle and never looked back. I sure hope you have better luck then I do.

Hi, LM!

I think Patty may have been referring to the Fiskars TV video...I mentioned it in post #7 on here, but here it is again. I hope this helps!

Speaking of having problems with Fiskar Products, where can one buy SCALLOPED SCISSSOR that are not made by Fiskar. My Fiskar Scalloped Scissors make terrible scallops. :-) LM

They sell ProvoCraft decorative scissors in Michaels that make nice big scallops, not the wee ones of Fiskars. The PC scissors are kind of pricey at normal price, but when they go on sale they are dirt cheap. Oh, and just in case you hadn't seen them, Fiskars makes a scissor that has the same kind of pattern as the PC scallops -- they are called Cloud. HTH~!

I love mine, but as everyone has said, it does take a bit of practice to get the hang of it. Even then, a lot of people still don't like it. Another thing to watch is to make sure that your blade is adjusted to the kind of paper you are using. You can move it up and down by turning the knob on top. I just bought the tag template, works great for pocket card inserts.

I've had the original one for years and could never get it to work. It's buried in my craft room somewhere. I had heard that the new Ultra ShapeXpress was better so since I have the templates, I bought it with 40% off coupon. The first time I tried it I got the same results as with the old one. Then I realized that the orange thing on the bottom comes off! This is now one of my favorite tools. I'll have to find my old one and see if the orange thing was my problem on that one.
