So I am going to assume we all have seen the Diamond craze...gluing flat backed rhinestones on a pre-print a la Paint by Number....
I was starting to think about doing it on a card with the right outline stamps-or maybe just a geometric pattern...when viola! They now have diamond card sets. I don't personally care for any I have seen so far. They are either partial or some even don't seem like painting but just popping on some embellishments here and there.
Has anyone made one and what did you think about it?
Plus honestly, I think I am spoiled. I dont love the solid plastic diamonds...I am used to the pretty glass looking ones we get.

never heard of this but looked it up. .. interesting. I'm still very much into my die cutting (got hooked on the dies over using my Cricut cartridges )... Might give this a try at some point... thanks for pointing it out !

I tried to like Diamond Painting and it was too tedious for me instead of being meditative. So the cards are a no for me.
This is awesome that you bring this up, and I'm hoping others can chime in with their experiences and advice if they, too, have tried using them on their cards. I have four bottles of pretty colors I picked up this Spring from a clearance bin at Hobby Lobby... and I don't think I've used them yet, but I think they'd make lovely substitutes for rhinestones/sequins/etc. on cards.
Margot, I checked to se if you had any examples of what you've done in your gallery, but unfortunately didn't turn up anything. Would you be open to uploading a few of these cards to your gallery and sharing them with us? It would be so inspiring!
Can't wait to see what others have to say about this!

I have not made any yet. I don't like any of the sets so far I have seen.
I was just thinking about a DYI version where I stamp and then "paint" that.....This is all just in my head right now. NO time for experimental stuff right now.
I haven’t tried to make any pictures with diamond dots but I do use them in shaker/snow globe cards. The fact that they are low profile makes them great to shake and they are less prone to static cling than glitter.
I've done maybe 25 diamond paintings but haven't mounted and framed any. They're stacked up in an armoire where I store art supplies. I actually enjoy doing them and would do more except they'd just end up stacked up on the other ones I did. I've never thought of using them ON cards, but tetris' comment above reminded me that I've got lots of spare diamond dots and I could put them into shaker cards. Thanks for the idea 😊.

I first started buying the iridescent Dotz when I saw a rack of them at JoAnn. I couldn't resist all of those colors and I use them often on cards instead of all of the sequins that I have. I've also used them in shakers. I love the tiny pops of color and after doing three of the Dotz paintings I have lots of colors to chose from now. The plain ones are also great on men's cards.
As for the paintings, I did three and I have a fourth to do but do not find them that relaxing. It's partly a sight thing. I have to take my glasses off to place the Dotz well but then I"m working about 4" from the painting.

While part of me still thinks diamond painting is cheesy, I must admit that I've enjoyed doing it. As with papercrafting, I like to listen to audiobooks or music while doing them. (It was actually my local papercrafting store that first made me aware of diamond painting--the owners enjoyed them, so they sold some kits.)
I agree that the cards I've seen aren't too exciting--and they are costly. I think the "diamonds" would make the card heavy, unless you only use some as an accent.
Bravesfan Linda: I got some magnetic click-strip style poster hangers, and they work well for swapping out my designs without investing a lot of money for frames.
I LOVE the idea of using the leftover diamonds for shaker cards.
Thanks for posting this thread--I'm interested in seeing others' comments.
I was curious about how often I've uploaded cards using the Dotz.So far, I'm back to 2020 sometime and there are 18. I use them for little accents, flower centers, large dragonfly eyes, etc. I know I have other cards that maybe haven't been uploaded.

I personally prefer the little gems intended for nail art - they are much "glitzier" than the DiamondDotz. I don't know how they compare price-wise, but I bought a set on Amazon that also included tapes and brushes and "nail dotting tools" (basically styluses). There are also lots of options for just the gems. I can't get any of the links to work, so just do a search for "Nail gems and tape" and scroll to see what floats your boat. There is also a fun set of 3D nail art in Christmas shapes that I thought would be fun for Christmas shakers. Search "Cesusme Christmas".

Reason: Fix links - didn't work

I would worry that all the "dotz" wouldn't stay stuck through the mail -- after all the work of attaching each one individually. Some other embellishments don't stick reliably, so filling entire areas with the "dotz" isn't for me.
I did a dotz "painting" while having cataract surgeries. Since they do them one at a time and I've always been nearsighted, I chose to stay that way and my close up vision was still good but I had issues putting layers on cards straight so I bought one of those, set it up on a table that's in a spare room and when I felt the need to be creative worked on it. It seemed a little tedious at first but once it started coming together it was fun and the picture was really pretty. Half dotz and half preprinted picture. I did save the dotz and have actually used them a few times as accents when I didn't want bling. Would I do another? Probably not unless I couldn't do anything else.
