Default Dahle 507 Question

I just received a Dahle 507 for my birthday. I did a lot of researching before purchasing, and this seemed the best rotary cutter for my budget.

I am trying to determine if I have a lemon.

For those of you who have Dahle rotary cutters, how hard is it to push (or pull) the blade? I just turned 26 (not 62!), but I am having a hard time getting the blade out of the ends of the trimmer. The rubber piece that the blade housing travels over keeps popping up, and the blade is cutting into each end. I would assume that it shouldn't be rubbing into the rubber piece, since it isn't in the middle and travels much smoother once I get to the center.

Any input would be much appreciated!

I removed the rubber piece under the cutting blade, and it cuts just fine without it. However I don't know if I should continue cutting without it. I don't want to break anything or void my warranty.

Any advice? I did send a message to Dahle, but I don't expect a reply until the start of the new business week.

I have a Dahle 550, which I love. It shouldn't be difficult for you to move the blade mechanism, so you definitely want to speak with the company. I went to their website and found a phone number for Customer Relations: 800-243-8145. Sometimes I find it easier to speak with a person instead of dealing with e-mail, but that's a personal preference.

I hope that you find that they offer courteous and speedy communication and that you'll end up really happy with your purchase!

Yeah, I figured I was doing something wrong. I have the 507 with the decorative blades, so I think the rubber piece goes in when you are using those, not when using the regular blade. I wish they would have specified that in the instructions. When I took a close look at the 507 on their site, it didn't show the rubber piece in place. I assumed it needed to be there, because it was when I took it out of the box.

If anyone has the specialty blades, am I doing it right now? Lol, I hope so!
