Default Are cuttlebugs worth it if all you will use it for is embossing?

I am thinking about getting a cuttlebug but will probably only use it for embossing as I already have a cricut. My question is if I only use it that way, is it worth getting? Oh, and if so, what is your favorite embossing folder?

thanks!

I ONLY have a Cuttlebug, I use it for both, I would also say if you like to dry emboss, then it is totally worth it. so fast and easy, no sore hands/arms from rubbing with a stylus! and beautiful.
As to my favorite folder, I guess right now I have seen a ton of cute stuff with Swiss Dots, I use Textile, stylized flower, tiny mosaic, oh gosh, I use all of them that I have, about 9!
I have already worn the ejection foam out of my Snowflakes die and bought another one! I think I used it with chipboard coasters too much for my Stamp Club gals

I only use my cuttlebug for embossing. I use my cricut for cutting. I always use both when making cards-they go hand in hand!

I'd have to say 'yes.' I bought the CB just for the embossing capabilities - especially the ability to partially emboss. I already have a few (ahem) other machines including the Sidekick, the Zip 'e Mate and the Wishblade. I even have the old red Sizzix machine, though I haven't used it for years. (It's a long story...)

Favorite embossing folder? Hard to choose just one...I love them all. I used "congrats" to CASE a great graduation card recently. I used script to make some really beautiful sympathy cards.

The embossing feature of the Cuttlebug is great, but realize the die cutting features also. You can cut the dies with all kinds of materials for your cards or altered projects......felt, craft foam, compressed sponge, leather, magnetic sheets, hand made paper, fabric, any material you can cut with scissors. No need to purchase sticker, you can make your own!

I use my machines for both die cutting and embossing equally.

I say YES too! I bought my Cuttlebug for the embossing ... and that's all I used it for at first. Now I've ventured into a few dies (because it takes dies from all different manufacturers, not just the Cuttlebug ones) and the Nesties work GREAT in it. I LOVE the Nesties!

It is TOTALLY worth it! I have some dies but use my Bug most for embossing. The embossing is really pretty. I use the Swiss Dots embossing folder the most. Then Textile and stylized flowers.

Get the Bug! Creativexpress.com sells it for only $35 quite often.

I love my cuttlebug! I use it for embossing and die cut with my Craft Robo. That really is the "dream combination" in my opinion. You can usually find a good deal for the cuttlebug. I got mine at Michaels with a 50% off coupon.

YES YES YES. I use mine mostly for embossing but I do have a few dies. Since I finally got the Swiss dots folder, I use it even more.

I know Swiss Dots is the the most popular embossing folder these days, but don't forget about D'Vine Swirl. It is very versatile and I use it a lot. It was the first folder I bought, and I still use it a bunch.

I got mine about 2 months ago and love it, love it, love it! I mainly use it for embossing. I did do one die cut and freaked out because I thought I did something wrong because the die "etched" into one of my spacer plates. I later found out that was normal but still it would have been nice if they would have warned me that was going to happen!

I couldn't justify $80 for only embossing (I use my wishblade for everything else). So I spent a few bucks on a pasta machine and it works perfectly. The impressions are wonderful! And I don't mist with water or anything like that.

Don't forget that Michael's lets you use their % off coupons on the Cuttlebug. (And competitor's coupons.) I bought mine last year (or was it even the year before?) at Michael's with a 50% off Joann's coupon. $40 is totally worth it. No regrets from me at all. (I had serious buyer's remorse with the Wizard.)

yea but you can always get it cheaper.. creativexpress runs it for $35 (without the accessories, and you can buy those if you want separately, or just choose your own folders/dies) and the coupons that the big name chains always have.

when I bought mine,I got it at CE and picked out exactly what folders I wanted and a couple of dies too..more folders and dies than came with th efull kit..for about the same price.

Default Hi Kathryn,

I think the cuttlebug is definitely worth the money. I have a cricut too but I find I use my bugging more than I chirp. LOL Making cards with the embossing folders is faster and easier compared to using a stylus. Cuttlebug has many nice embossing folders. I just learned last week that I could use my tin embossing templates with the cuttlebug. All I have to do is purchase a plumbers gasket for $2.49 from the hardware store.

I do not ever buy any of my tools at full price. I used a 40% off coupon at HL to purchase mine. In addition, you can wait until the next time Michaels has a 50% coupon and get it for $40.00. I see you live in Georgia. Some areas in Georgia have AC Moore instead of HL. AC Moore always has terrific sales.

Go for it and get the cuttlebug.

So far, it's embossing only for me and my bug--and I can live with that, LOL! EVERY card I've given so far with that extra touch has gotten a ton of compliments--not that I make and send em' for that reason, but it's nice to hear
I love my Swiss Dots and the swirly one

Totally YES! I was a little afraid that I would use and put in away to collect dust, now it has a permanent place on my stamping table so that I use it as often as I can.

I love my CB - but it's the only system I have. My fave folders are Textile, Soft Swirls and I'm dying to get my hands on a Swiss Dots.

wow... the overwhelming answer seems to be yes. I've been debating of whether to get a cuttlebug or a scor-pal next. Since I can always score the old fashioned way with my bonefolder and a guide, and everyone here is so enthusiastic I think it will now go to the top of my wishlist!

I just broke down and got one, because of all the lovely cards in
this site gallery; however, at the cost of large scallop paper punch, it is also great to be able to eventually get nestabilities instead of spending money on
large paper punches.

LOVE mine packing it & taking it to Florida so my sister and I can enjoy it on vacation. I'm just amazed as to what this little machine can do.

The fact that you can buy 'em reasonably priced and the embossing folders as well, I just can't see why you would jump in!!!!! Come on ya know ya want to!!!!

The Michael's here in Lexington won't allow you to use the % off coupon. Plus the night I went to get it they were out of them! :(

So I ended up going to a local scrapbooking store to get mine. Didn't get to use a coupon anyway and that's ok because it is so totally worth it!!

I love mine - and the d'vine swirls folder - got mine online at creative express before Christmas. Didn't really use it til recently... I only emboss and it makes me happy. Of course I want a bunch of new folders that I will have to wait for...no $$ right now.
