I saw it referred to as a joke in a thread about saving money by not buying a cuttlebug, and just stomping on the folders or using a rolling pin...but there may be some who are strong enough to make that rolling pin emboss. I figure I would need an old ringer washer (showing beyond my age) if I didn't have a CB. I got mine from www.creativexpress.com and it was $39 plus postage - got it in early december. Much better to have the proper equipment!!
I saw this several months ago but did not try it.... http://www.allthatscraps.com/index.p...d=17&chapter=0
I love the idea for using the wringer washing machine though! I also read a thread on here a while back were someone tried their pasta machine.... I forget how that turned out but I dont think it was good...
yes, i tried the rolling pin and it worked on some of the embossing folders but the ones with small detail ( eg: textile) didn't work so well. I also heard about spraying a fine mist of water over the paper first to soften it before embossing but some parts of the image did well and some not so well. I succumbed and bought the cuttlebug. Great little machine, cost me $125 though. Good Luck, the rolling pin method is a great workout for the arms, Lol
I used my rolling pin before I got my cuttlebug - to try out the folders. I used SU cardstock, lightly misted both sides of the cardstock before inserting it in the folder. I used a piece of tape to hold the folder closed as the paper wanted to move with the rolling pin. I had best results by rolling on top of my cutting mat - something with a little give in it (others suggested fun foam). It takes practice to get even pressure but it works. That being said - I much prefer using my cuttlebug, now that I have it!
I have the Sizzix Big Kick which works wonderfully with the Cuttlebug embossing folders & dies. Got it on sale for $30!!! As a matter of fact, it's compatible with lots of other dies - QuicKutz, Wizard just to name a few. Something to think about tho' I'd check around for prices on the Cuttlebug! Good luck.
creativexpress will sell the machine just by itself, not the kit, for $35-40. that way you can pick and choose which folders to buy instead of being stuck with what they include.
this thread made me go buy a folder to test the rolling pin trick
it worked great for me and I didn't put foam or anything underneath it.
I have been planning on buying the cuttlebug when the funds are available anyway, so if it didn't work I was ok with having the folder, but I was pleasantly surprised, so thanks for this thread
