Oh thank you! I can actually read this without a magnifying glass! The instructions on the package are sooo small.

a lady at a scrapbooking convention in Orlando was showing some tips on the crop a dile and something that has helped me is she said to remember "the guys on top" which means when you look at the tool have the eyelet setter prong on top and it slides into the eyelet (female) which is positioned in the hole punched in the paper. I hate to admit that a crude little comparision helps me always remember!! lol

I used my new Crop-a-dile for the first time this morning. I was skeptical after reading everything in this post that it would smush the tar out of my eyelets. I am happy to report I didn't have any trouble with it. The eyelets were from eyeletopia.com. I don't know if the brand of eyelet matters; I imagine that there are differences in the metals used by different manufacturers.

Thanks for the tips ladies!

Subscribing! I have just purchased my crop o dile a couple of days ago and have not really even looked at it, never mind read the directions. This thread is scaring me, but I hope I will have some success. I am one of those weaklings that has an instant setter for my eyelets - and even so ( it is spring loaded ) it takes me three tries per eyelet to get it set. So maybe I'll be okay with cropodile. Let's hope so!!! Thanks for all of the tips! You know I think it would make a big difference what type/ brand of eyelets you used. Some are much softer, some not. I'll try to keep that in mind - if I ever figure out what to do!

Thanks! Will let you know!

Thank YOU for this post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was getting very frustrated yesterday with the eyelets getting stuck on the post. I just went over and tried it the correct way and YAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I am much happier!!!!!

If you have the pink one and the rivets on the handle are loose, it not you it is the cropodile. I hav had to search and search to get one that was not defected. You can call the company and notify her of same.

In case anyone needs them...here are the factory instructions for both the CAD and the CAD II Big Bite, as well as a tutorial from another nice lady. Once I read the CAD II and tutorial, my eyelets came out perfectly.

For this first one, you have to scroll through the forum until you see the attached .pdf
It's a copy of the original CAD's instructions.
Forums at Splitcoaststampers

This one is the CAD II Big Bite's factory instructions.

Sara provided a very nice tutorial here. I use it with the factory instructions.

Subscribing - another eyelet smoosher! :( By the way, I bought mine at Costco which included a case and eyelets for way less than other places except using a 40% coupon!

I use my 2 month old CAD mainly for hole punching. The metallic SU eyelets look horrible on the back, broken, jagged and uneven. No way would I have that on a card even if I covered the backs of them! I'm going to try some other brands to see if it makes a difference. But I'm always awkward with a new tool, you should have seen me trying to use a snail adhesive for the first time!

Isn't there another setting tool out now? I saw it somewhere.

I bought a big bite instead of the COD. I had to wait several weeks to get one when they first came out and I'm glad I got the BB. I find it easier to have it sit on the table then having to hold it in my hand.

I wanted the BB for the longer reach and it has come in so handy for being able to punch holes up to 6" from the edge.

I only use it to set the really hard/thick eyelets and snaps. Out of habit, I just grab my two little hole punches for the softer eyelets.

A draw-back on the BB is the size, but beiing able to cut through really thick materials makes it well worth the extra size and weight.

Default my experience w/ the Crop

I've had some eyelets set nice and others squish. I think it's because eyelets aren't all made the same. The ones that squished on me seemed like they were softer than the eyelets that set nicely. For the softer eyelets I try to squeeze lightly (but it's not easy).

I don't think the COD flowers the eyelet like when you use a hammer. The only time I've gotten the flower look was with the hammer and a springloaded eyelet setter (can't remember what it was called).

Good luck!the COD is a cool tool; especially when punching holes in thick items.

I never have been able to get it to work for me. In fact I have never had a clean eyelet ever.

Stampers on this site have commented it depends on the type of eyelets you use.

Hope this helps.

I had a COD. Used it once. Kept it in a drawer. Then the Big Bite came out and my daughter bought it for me. I use it all the time. Love it. Gave the COD away because the reach just wasn't good enough. Plus the Big Bite sets grommets too and I use those sometimes.

Hi Diane...I saved my card because I kept messing up. But I also found a .pdf that you can save to your desktop. It's for the Big Bite, but the settings are the same on the COD.

Default Thank you!

Thanks for posting the link to the Big Bite PDF instructions! The instructions that came with mine were white lettering on light blue back ground and I could not read them at all!!! Very glad to have this!
