What is a baby cricut? Is it the first cricut machine?

Yes, the new one is called the "Expressions". The original one cuts 6 inches wide and the new one cuts 12 inches.

The first one is usually referred to as the "original".

I actually saw what I'd call a "baby Cricut" yesterday at Walmart. It had a little hand crank and is intended for kids to use. It was so cute and only $20!
I'm totally out of the loop on the Cricut stuff though, so that could be old news! I thought about getting it "for my kids" though. ;)

That's the cuttlebug not the cricut I think.
