Default Craft Iron

Does anyone own a craft iron - sold specifically for crafts?
The mini ones are $13 or so...
But I am wondering what the difference is VS a regular iron...

Just cute? or is there a function I am not aware of?

Thanks!

No steam holes is one difference.

Smaller so easier to pack in your bag, if you travel to crops, etc.

you can use a travel iron as well, and you can often find them at thrift stores for way cheap.

I got my little craft iron for about $7.00. I love it because I can keep it in my stamp room and don't have to go running upstairs and plug in the big one. The plate is fairly small but the fact that it doesn't have steam holes is very nice. I love it's small size because I can just shove it in one of my drawers.

My sister bought one from TAC.

She is also a sewing and the little craft iron has come in handy for ironing down seams.

And she can take it with her on trip for lite ironing just to get the wrinkles out of her clothes.

That is my main question. What do you use it for? There is only one technique I do that needs an iron. Maybe ribbon -- once in a blue moon.
Am I missing something?

I always thought the craft irons were a neat tool, too. There's one that is kind of like a little flat iron (for straightening hair) that is specifically for ribbon. Not sure of the company.
I don't own one, though.:( I just use a hot lightbulb in the room to get a kink out of my ribbon.

Well I dont have one but I use my iron when I am doing anything with fusible film, fibre and angelica (http://www.rarebird.ltd.uk/simplyfused.html), I have also used it to straight paper and card that has warped if I have applied to much moisture but i do know that one of the main reasons for the craft iron was Encaustic Art http://www.encaustic.com/

Default Craft Iron Uses

I use mine for velvet fabric embossing. If you go to the Hot Potatoes website I believe there is a tutorial. And as another little tip. I get my velvet from thrift stores. I buy velvet dresses and use the fabric. The velvet in the fabric stores is pricey. I have made cute little purses and drawstring bags.

Default Cute little clamshell design

Pebbles makes a cute clamshell one I got as a probono kinda thing. I guess this way you can't burn yourself (as I surely would!). I haven't used it, but when my ribbon gets fold marks or "kinky" I can see it becoming quite useful...

Found the Angelina Fiber at Create For Less.
But what they have listed as Crystalina is not the same as what the lady on the tutorial uses. Hers was like confetti. Theirs is little rhinestones.

I may need a craft iron after all!!!!

I bought mine at a stamping show here in Michigan. They are Angelina Fibers.

Angelina Fiber Best Wishes by g33kgr1 at Splitcoaststampers

That is what I mainly want the craft iron for... and I see cool stuff about melting wax etc... my DH would be in for a scary surprise when he touched up a work shirt and got my craft stuff on it!!!

Default Found it on ebay...

If you first go to this seller... mountain*shadow*ranch and then type in the words... angelina fusible ...you will find the product. Be sure to use both words. She also sells Angelina fibers that are for spinning and are NOT heat fusible.

Default craft iron

I just received a catalog from PaperWishes and they have a Heidi Swapp craft iron in there on pape 49. It's $ 12.99 and pink of all colors . Dimensions are 4"x2.5". I guess this would be perfect for this project with the fibers;). You can go to their website and see it on their online catalog too.

Thought you'd like to know. I know, blame it on me!!!;)
