Same here. I don't buy anything that isn't factory sealed. Just too many issues out there. Totally cute though!

Many craft fairs actually have rules prohibiting these types of "homemade" food items. I wouldn't buy one, and I'm not a germophobe. :(

does the local Board Of Health have regulations about selling 'loose' food. In NYC, you need a food-handlers' certificate to sell food like that (you also have to list allergins, i think).
i personally would not buy loose food like that. But i took the Bd Of Health class, so i know how gross loose food can be LOL

I know what you are all saying. To be honest, I don't know that I would buy them. I'm not what I would consider a germaphobe, but you just never know where people's hands have been and if they've been washed properly.
So, not to make this the longest question ever, but... what about the York peppermint patties? They are not actually "sealed" as much as they are wrapped. I was going to make some to sell but now I wonder if the same "rules" would apply . I know that you can buy them in individually wrapped bags (the bigger ones), but I was going to just decorate the smaller, paper wrapped ones.
I'll probably make up some of the containers with candies in them but actually sell them without the candy. It would be really easy for someone to just add the candy, and that way no one feels iffy about it.
The M&M treat bags I sold last year were a big success. Sold out. I am doing 3 shows this year and plan to do 200 this year if I get them all finished. Used the little individual bag of M&M (left the M&M's in their original bag) and put them in a 4x4 clear zip top bag with a stamped insert and ribbon on top. Sold them for a dollar each. Pic in my gallary from my craftshows from last year. Will the little mini bags fit in your containers?
I can fit an individually wrapped bag in there, it's just not near as cute. Maybe I'll have bags of M'nM's there in case people want to fill them. Maybe have the full size bags, that would probably fill two or three of the containers. Buy three containers for $4 or $5 and get the bag of M'nM's "free"? Otherwise they can just do it themselves later.

Not to be mean, but with the way some people are today, I would not buy unwrapped candy (remember what we tell kids about Halloween candy). If you could find some other kind of candy to put in it, maybe individually wrapped Lifesavers?? Or maybe even a non-food item?
Oh, I don't think that you're being mean. The more I think about it the more sense it makes to have people fill them themselves. I think I will be able to sell them for $2 each (unfilled) or $5 for 3 with a bag of M'nM's that you can put in there yourself. They are a pretty good size, probably 4 oz, so they could definetly put other things in there if they decided to. By the way, they cost a whopping 25 each to make (at most!).

As soon as I get the instructions from my sis for the little boxes with the to and from tags in them I will put them here. I believe each little box had 12 tags and we sold them for $10.00 each. It was a great money maker. I do know that all the elements for them were cut out on the Cricut. Will post more information as soon as it is available. My sis got really fast at making these.

Does anyone know where to get the individually wrapped bags of mini marshmallows? I am going to make pails of snowman soup fixin's. I tried Target and Vons (grocery store) today. I'll try Smart and Final tomorrow.
I'll tell you if you promise not to sell them at my craft fair :p. They were at the Dollar Tree. Can you believe that there was a pack of 10 for $1!? I was pretty excited to find them. Now I need to go back tomorrow and buy them out ;).

I just took a bag of M&M's (1.69 oz) that I have to see how much of it would be used in one of these containers. I put all of the M&M's in ONE container! So, I am definitely leaning towards having people fill them themselves. I'll see how much a box of the full size bags is at Costco, but I think it would have to be about 25 per bag (my cost) for me to keep my asking price at $2.
What do you guys think? Would you rather buy all that you need in one spot or just pay a little less and fill them yourselves later?
Ok so the fantastic Jennifer Dierks (www.igotstamps.com) has an idea on her blog that I cant wait to try out at my upcoming craft fair.
Its called the Husband Survival kit. In it it has a Valentines, Mothers day, Birthday, Christmas, Anniversary, Sorry and a Just because card in it, and she also included the dates for Valentines, Mothers day etc in 2010.
SUCH a great idea, and although I don't expect THAT many men, there may be a few poeple buying them as gifts.

I personally don't think people have too much of a problem with buying food in cute packages as long as the packaging is clean and professional looking and prices right. People buy from bake sales all the time and that stuff is not packaged at all in some cases. People would eat it if it were given to them like wedding favors. JMO
Ok..my sweet friend tried to provide the link to the cute little to and from gift tags but the link did not come through. I can tell you though that the pattern came from the SCS gallery so it should be pretty easy to search for. Good luck. If I can find the link I will post it here.

I'd prefer pre-wrapped treats. I'm pretty laid back, but do not like to eat food that has been handled!

For CAmomof2, my WalMart has the small bags of marshmallows in what I call the school lunch/snack aisle. They were next to the big boxes of single serving size chips.
Thank you! I don't go to Wal-Mart much (Target is closer), but there's one not too far away. I got 6 pails at Target yesterday so I am raedy to start to assemble my Snowman Soup packages.

Along the same lines as Snowman Soup, I might try to make mini-Smores kits. It'll depend on if I am able to find individually wrapped packs of graham crackers. Or maybe I could put a snack size bag of teddy grahams in there? Hmmm...
Thank you for the great ideas. I am trying to think of something unique to make for my daughters halloween exchange and your matchbox idea is just the thing to get my wheels turning. Thanks so much!
Pretty good price if you can catch them on a free shipping weekend....just not sure how you would incorporate the packaging into the Snowman Soup? They are a perfect size though.....

Those are a good deal. I am a little bit selective with marshmallows. Nothing ever tastes as good as Kraft, in my opinion. At this point I'm only planning on making 10 pails of soup, so I'm hoping that the box at WalMart will be perfect.
Cute matchboxes. One idea I saw at a craft fair awhile back using matchboxes was a "Tooth Fairy Box" - a matchbox covered and with a little fairy image on it and "Tooth Fairy Box" stamped (? probably computer generated) on it. Inside it had a little "nest" of cotton wool for the tooth to sit in. Kinda cute and easy to make.

That's a great idea. Might as well make a few of those while I'm at it. I have 200 matchboxes to alter at this point, I hope they sell!
i dont want to be a party pooper either - but i would never buy food products because you never know if someone lets their cat walk all over their counter tops, or let their booger finger kids eat some of the candy. good luck to you on your craft fair - i hope you do really well.
Last year I used differant stamped images on the front of my M&M bag inserts with the saying Thanks for touching my life with your special friendship! from the SU set. On the back of the insert I stamped Nothing's better than a good friend with chocolate, also from a SU set. These sold the best at my two shows before Thanksgiving last year. I did some up with angels on the front for my December show last year and they sold also. I think the angel policies state you can only do 50 items with their stamped images so I am working on some differant designs for this year as I am planning on making 200. Does anyone know if the limit for craft shows is still 50 items per stamped image?? And does that mean 50 per show or what??
