Default Copics - SU set or originals sets

I would like to invest in a set of copics. What do you think is the best way to start. I know there is a supplier that has put together a SU matched set; seems look a good idea to me, would match the paper and ribbons et al. that I already have. I already have a full set of SU markers though, although I know that they are different types of markers. Or do I buy a set that is already put together by the Copic people, they must have some logic as to why they put them together. Or do you just see what people deem most popular and buy them one of (although I think this would be the most expensive way)...Please share your thoughts as to how you did or would do it....

I would recommend buying a set other than just the SU colors. I bought the 72A set of ciaos, and am finding that there are other colors that match great with the SU set. For instance, Strong Red (I think) is what ATS says matches Real Red, but I have Lipstick Red and IMO it matches Real Red perfectly. I think if you get the SU set of COpics, you will wish you had other colors.

The problem that I see with buying the SU set is that you need colors that are close to each other for shading, i.e. light green, med green, dark green, etc. I have purchased mine separately, most at Hobby Lobby using coupons or on sale. There are still colors that I need but now buy them as I need a color. I am lucky that I have a good supplier near me.

I would have bought the SU set. I got into them reluctantly so I had 20 before I knew what happened and all sets have duplicates to mine now.

But anyhow my thinking is that the SU set is a really good range of colors. And my favorite colors too, so I would have gotten it if I could go back in time.

I think if not that I'd get the A set, I think it has the most basic colors. Like several shades of the 8-pack colors ya know?

But I guess you have to just pick what you think will be best for you.

I was just debating this myself as I've decided I need to invest in these FINE markers! What I found was that the set offered in the SU Colors were the "Ciao" style of Copics - and I want to invest in the Sketch kind. I like the thickness of the tips on the sketch series, just my personal preference. I believe the SU matched colors offered by AllThatScraps were only offered in Ciao style. I have been doing some searching and I'm finding some decent deals on eBay. I also agree with other posters in that you will want several shades of colors (not just SU ones) for blending purposes.

Hope that helps!
