I am not one to buy everything in a line just to have it. I buy ink pads and such on an as need basis.
A little over a year ago I decided to buy Copics . I carefully laid out a plan to buy a light, medium and dark marker in the ROY G BIV colors plus pink, brown and grey.
I worked with those for a while , but Then I stepped on the Banana peel. ;)
I wanted some Blue/Greens for water.---- Then of course I needed Christmas Greens because I had chosen YG's for foliage. ---- Just having the C's were not enough I also needed the W's . R81-R83-R85 were very pretty so I added those . Tada Tada Tada
You get the picture
I saw storage ideas for Copics and many people had at least half of all of the colors. Now I know how they ended up with so many colors

LOL ... That is how is seems to happen. I started out saying .. I will just buy the Ciao markers.... that will be fine for me. Then I picked up a couple of sketch markers... a couple more ... Then thought I like these better so I now have them all in Sketch AND still have the ciao that I am now selling. Oh did I mention that I thought originals would be nice also... so I have duplicates of about 20 markers in original .... Geeze!

Crack! LOL! I don't have any and after reading this, I'm staying far away! I can't really afford them and I'm happy with regular markers and water coloring techniques.
I bought my first marker on 7/16/11....I now own about 27 (It's 7/31). Thank God for 50% off and even 55% off coupons. I've been to numerous Michaels so they don't think something is wrong with me, but I think they now recognize me. It's a tad embarassing. They asked what's so special about the markers. HA!!!!!!
Your Michael's sells Copics? I have to go to a local art store to get mine. Luckily I have a 25% off total purchase coupon. I got my first 3 sets of 12 recently from a company, but only had to pay wholesale thru a friend. I am hooked!!!
Hello my name is Greg and I'm a Copiholic.
Michael's sells the Copic Sketch in a very limited selection - 60 colors I think.
Hobby Lobby also sells Copic Sketch - 100 colors.
Somewhere (sorry, can't remember where), I saw color charts for the 2 stores, which is how I found out their selection was limited.

I bought one Copic several months ago. Last week I bought another at Michael's using a coupon. Then I got to thinking, at my age, and using one coupon per week...hmmm, nope, not enough time left to start an "collection" of Copics! LOL!

You could Just buy them at Oozak. He is cheaper than Michael's with a 40% off coupon. Save up until you have a $50 order and the shipping is free.
See you can have Copics

OMG can I relate! I became seriously addicted and have most of the the sketch sans the flourescent and a few of the grays....... Then due to the price hike I went ahead and invested in all of the refills. I do a lot of airbrushing and the fact that the markers last practically forever made me take the plunge. Crack???? Oh yeah!!!!
This thread is too funny - I'm an addict too I guess - 230 sketches and counting I only started buying them 3 months ago. Hence, I'm "consolidating" and selling the rest of my craft room to afford my crack.
Copics are seriously addicting. I only need 5 more and I have every last one of them. When I look at all of the one's that I have I think to myself "How in the world did I end up with so many"
Yes I only need a handful more too... and I most certainly don't use all of them! But I must collect them all! It is that darn handcolor chart. I don't like the fact that there are white spaces like something is missing that should be filled in. I feel compelled to fill in the whole chart!
I have no compulsion to buy all of anything.
But as I work with these or see an image colored by someone else I say oh I wish I had___ ( fill in the color) . I keep a running list on my computer stand and when I have enough markers on it to get free shipping I place an order.
My two favorite sites for Copic color ideas are Beate's and Sharon Harnist's sites . I think they must own all of them LOL

I did a dangerous thing today...went in to Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon and thought, "I know, I'll use it to try out a Copic marker. BIG mistake! I'm already trying to find matches to my favorite SU! colors. This is nuts...but I'm smiling all the way!
I don't dare go there, I know myself too well. I have EVERY color of Prismacolor pencil, because after I had most of them i felt incomplete because there were a few I didn't have. Why on earth do I need all those grays? There are warm grays, cool grays, 10%, 50%, and so on and so on. I'm afraid to start on Copics.
I put off getting into Copics for two years. I had purchased only one sketch marker to test it, and then I figured out the total cost for all the colors I would need. That was an eye opener. I finally gave up resisting and bought my initial color selections all at once. Then I spent a couple of weeks learning to use them. After a purchase like that, I was determined to figure it out.
I love the process of coloring with them . Should have bought them years ago, but then maybe I wouldn't appreciate them as much as I do now.
And while we are talking about slippery slopes, don't forget the cardstock. I've bought five full reams of that, different weights and types, all specifically for printing and coloring with Copics.

Hi Judi,
Which do you like better Hammermill Color Copy Cover 80 or 100lb? I am currently using Boise HD Color Copy Cover 80lb and I really like it, almost as much as the X-press It. I would be interested to test how the Hammermill compares.
Michelle, I haven't tried the Boise. For quick tests, I use the Hammermill Color Copy Cover 60 lb. It's inexpensive and easy to try several different color combos without wasting the more expensive papers. I often use the HCCC 80 lb. for the actual image to color, and I back it with the HCCC 100 lb for the card base. It's a perfect match that way.
I also like the X-press It but was unable to match it to another white for card bases.

Michelle, I should have asked whether you have an Xpedx store near you. They often have free sample sheets available. I took several different brands out to my car and tested them with my markers before settling on the Hammermill.
If you want a club (which I joined of course) that has good prices and does ship you need to check this place out. She's great and keeps track so she only orders what you don't have. For me it's been great because I started out by buying colors that caught my eye, this way I am getting the color sets filled in which has helped me greatly.
They are adicting big time, I didn't realize how bad when I started buying them. I have found I prefer the copic paper though as I prefer the finished look. I must have 100 pieces colored, not sure how I'll use them though.
Good luck!!

To add to the feeling that Copics are like crack, I went in to my local Michael's to see if and where they carried them. They do, but you have to ask a dealer... I mean a Sales Associate to see what they have available in the back room.
I am brand new to Copic Sketch markers. I was told to buy a light, medium and dark of one color to start. But what can a person do with only three reds, three yellows or three greens? So I bought three of each. Then I found out that I needed to have blue, gray, pink, yellow-green, yellow red and brown ... lots of brown.
Fast forward two months ... Now, I have 505 markers and like Cindy, I usually find myself wishing for another group of three.
On the up side, I'm not very artistic, but Copic markers allow me to color like I never could with a regular marker. I LOVE MY COPICS!!

Melissa
WOW! 505 markers in umm 2 months ... ::drooling:: I think it took me 1 1/2 years to get 484 plus almost 100 refills. And most of that was just recently because of the price increase that I was afraid of.

That was a BIG Typo!
I have 55 markers ... Not 505. I am not sure how I ended up typing that. I must have been DREAMING!!
I suppose someone could have all the colors in one type, say "Sketch" and the a bunch of Originals or Ciao or Wide Copics, too.

When I fell, I fell pretty dang hard. So far I think I'm hovering around 70(ish). I didn't think anything of it until the day DH saw them in the cases and said "You have a lot of those markers!" and I replied "You see this color chart? All those white squares are the ones I'm missing!"
;)

That's what I'm afraid of, so I haven't taken the leap yet either. That and I'll have to buy slowly and won't be able to do much with just a few. It seems like it will take forever to have enough colors to get started.

So I was in hobby lobby yesterday and I see that they're selling copics in packs of 6. I've been buying one or two... or four at a time when they've gone on sale. The biggest mark down I've ever seen on them is 30%. I've never been able to use my coupon on just one since I never want just one marker at a time.
Welll....I now see that they carry those convenient packs of six. And amazingly some of these packs have colors that I don't already own. Now that's a good way to use my coupon. And ACMoore has a 50% off coupon this week.. Anyone know if Hobby Lobby accepts competitor coupons?
