Default COPIC PRICE INCREASE

I just received an email from Rusty (oozark.com) that effective January 1, 2012, there will be an increase in the price for Copics. He said to expect an 11% - 18% increase; amount of increase dependent upon the product.

Thought you'd all like to know this information.

I just came here to post that too Rosie!! :(

I had to place my "wishlist" order. I have a tough time justifying the cost now, I KNOW I won't be able to once they are MORE! :(

I figured now was a very good time to get ink refills. I still couldn't afford buy refills for all of my markers (I *only* ha ha, have 93 markers) but I put a good dent in my ink refill Wish List. I just made Rusty's Xmas $185 better. LOL

Rusty's email said exactly the reson he told me for the increase . Here is his email

The COPIC Price Increase Explained...

Many of you have probably heard that there is going to be another COPIC price increase. Well, sort of....

The US Importer of COPIC products, Imagination International Incorporated (III) is restructuring the wholesale cost to retailers, which, in turn, will force many retailers to increase their final selling price. So, the actual Suggest Retail Price (SRP) is not going up, retail selling prices will.

I'm sure you are asking yourself...
HOW CAN THEY HAVE ANTOHER PRICE INCREASE ?! THEY JUST DID ONE IN AUGUST !!
WHO DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE ?! HOW MUCH MONEY DO THEY NEED TO MAKE ?!

These are all valid questions and the same questions I asked as well. I have the answer and it's a reasonable one too. The Japanese Yen is VERY STRONG! John at III explained to me that when they started importing COPIC into the US, the Yen was around 150 JPY to $1.00 USD. Currently the Yen is around 75 JPY to $1.00 USD. What that means is that things from Japan cost more than they used to; just about 100% more than they used to. Look at the chart below from XE - The World's Favorite Currency and Foreign Exchange Site. It shows the last 10 years of USD per JPY. Simply explained, as the line climbs, the cost of COPIC products go up.

( the excel chart did not copy)

Now that we have that all cleared up, yes, my selling price will have to increase. Expect an 11% - 18% increase in my COPIC selling prices effective January 1st, 2012. It will depend on the product as to the amount of the increase. Of course, I will continue to deliver the broadest range of COPIC products at the lowest prices I can.

Oozak will be CLOSED during the week after Christmas...

I know, it's not perfect timing. I am moving my entire operation to a new retail location the week after Christmas. The site will still be up and running as normal, ready and willing to accept orders; the office, however, will be closed - there will be a delay of answering email and phone calls. So, there will be a shipping delay during probably one of my busiest weeks of the year. Normally it's one of the slowest weeks, but with the COPIC price change coming, I'm sure it will be crazy busy. I will have it clearly posted on the site that there will be a shipping delay. If you don't mind the delay and are willing to wait, feel free to order during that week ;)

As always, I appreciate your business very much! Have a great holiday season!

I am sticking with Oozak. I know his web site inventory is alway accurate and his shipping is fast. He has kept his prices as low as he can and he can't control the value of the US dollar.

I have another hobby that I order some things from Japan. Pattern books that I bought in the past for under $10 are now over $40 and they are written in Japanese. If this keeps up we will not be able to afford things made in Japan.

You know, I have been thinking about this since last night......the exchange rate should affect everything we buy that's imported from Japan, correct?

Maybe some of the jobs will come back to the states??? Wouldnt that be awesome...i guess I will have to order less of them at a time but will not stop completely. I too only order from Rusty at OOZAK. For some reason I have a hard time navigating the website for Carpiediem.

blessings.

Actually it does affect everything from Japan. We just don't import much from Japan
I do a Japanese craft and get my books from a bookstore here who imports them from Japan.
When I started this in the 90's the books were under $10. The same books are now $40. Needless to say I am very selective if I buy any more books

It isn't just the value of the Japanese Yen vs the US dollar the British Pound is also a problem. A magazine subscription I used to buy cost them 68 a year. It was up to $121 a year for me when I cancelled it .

China where we get most of our manufactured goods , manipulates their currency so we don't see the affect of the devaluation of the US dollar vs the Chinese Yuan
