Just chiming in quickly

My favorite CS so far with the Copics is Georgia Pacific- the kind you can get at Walmart for around $5 for 150 sheets. I've tried the Papertrey CS, Wassau Exact Matte, & Bristole. So far I've had the best results with GP.

And Barb........ you NEED more ;)

Good, if kinda gross! That is how I was thinking too, I only put "cope" because it's a word that people would know how to pronounce.

LOL ~~ it sounds gross, but it's that thingy at the end of ice skates to help you stop (they prolly work better than just falling your butt, like I do, lol)

Copics are definitely worth the investment. They can shade and blend just like the prismas but with more vibrancy. Here is an example of mine where I tried to do a bit of shading. I have NO art training it just takes a little practice....I bought my sets from MFT and Kim is wonderful to ask questions and work with. Just my 2 cents but I am thrilled with my purchase....

If you shop around like on mftstamps.com which is the best price I have seen yet, they are about the same price as S.U. markers. meaning if you get the set of 36 markers is cost $115 = that averages to 3.19 each (although not sold individualy)
Stampin up individual markers are $3.25 each. (I know the set is a better deal but.. just comparing it to the individual ones) Plus I only use one end of the S.U. ones because the fin tip doesn't work well. At least my opinion.
That is how I am justifying it to myself. LOL:mrgreen:

Here is another link to a lady who sells Copic markers (and CB embossing folders, stickles, adorable penguin stamps...)

kreationsbykrissy.com

This will take you to her ebay store, but she has a blog, too. You can find her by google-ing Kreations by Krissy. I just found her and am in love with her penguin stamps, but am planning to buy other products from her as well. She combines shipping and has great customer service and speedy shipping. She has Marvy scalloped punches, too!

I considered copic but heck they are really expensive so I went with prismacolor. I got 72 from a Toronto seller on ebay. I paid 91.99 for 72 prismacolor, 16 premiere pencils, 16 watercolor pencils, and 16 verithin pencils. I thought that was an excellent deal considering what it costs for 72 copics.

Yep- it's the pointy thing at the end of the skates (ever seen the 90s moving cutting edge? good movie- they yell "toe-pick" for quite a few scenes)

But picky, not related to markers- they don't help you stop at all! A recreational skater should probably never use them at all (except maybe to trip over) they help you with some jumps!

LOL ~~ well, I never claimed to even know how to skate!! And yes, that's the only time I've ever heard the term before ~~ in "Cutting Edge"!! I loved that movie!! I loved when she kept taunting him with it! And I guess since he was fumbling about, I assumed it was to help you stop ~~ I didn't even think about the jumps!! Of course!!!!

Now back to your Copic thread........

Default Copic---just what are they?

Well I am going to jump into this discussion on Copic markers.

First, let me say that Copic is a brand of alcohol markers. There are others, Prismacolor Markers, Letraset Tria, and Chartpak or the other ones of which I am aware.

Alcohol markers blend beautifully, though it does take some practice. Colorless blender pens are available thru each of the companies. Each of the colors of the markers is set to a Panatone "maker--kind of a DNA of a color" and is used but the color industry as a standard. These apply from everything from soups to nuts or should I say fashion, architecture, interior design...well you get the picture.

All alcohol markers have some order...they are made of alochol....so choose the ones you think your nose can live with.

I have a favorite card of mine in my gallery in which I used Copic and Letraset Markers ( I am fortunate to have a mixture of both)... if you would like check it out at:
Restraint experienced by 1flourish at Splitcoaststampers

One more thought....these markers are just another art medium, water based markers, pastel chalks, watercolor crayons are also some of the many mediums that we can use in our art.

This gives me a just the nudge I have been needing to write an article for my blog.....think I will start working on that....stay tuned.

Hope that this has helped a little.

Just wanted to chime in that I love my Copics. I took a class from Kathy (aka Colorin' Kate) at my LSS and fell in love. They do take some practice and you do need the right paper (GP does work well) and the right ink (Adirondack is what Kathy recommends). Enjoy them ladies, they are worth the investment!!

Default Scrapbookers be careful

I posted this on another thread and just wanted to share with you guys too...I have a degree in art/advertising and used the Prismacolor markers (same type of marker) all throughout school. I graduated in 1999 and we moved this past month. While packing I noticed that all of my work done with markers had faded so much. I would think that it would be fine on cards, but just don't use it on scrapbook pages. They need to be an archival quality markers that are pigment based.

I even read on the Copic site just now that if you are creating art with them, you should make a color copy of your art because the original is not going to "last" being exposed to any light.

Just my two cents...thanks!

Ok, that seems really wrong for paying so much for markers....you would expect them to last. I guess it doesnt matter that much if you are using them on cards....but still.

Dye ink also fades, so it is no big deal to me if alcohol marker ink fades too. I wouldn't use it in my scrapbook.

How long does it take to get a response from Carpe Diem regarding the sale price on the Copic Sketch?

There's 2 1/2 times more ink in the sketch pens as there is in a ciao and a ciao is supposed to have enough ink to totally cover 4 sheets of paper.

It's more affordable to start off with ciaos then refill as & when needed. Ciaos in the uk are around the same price as marvys & su pens. We've also got the cheaper versions (promarkers) of the letraset trias. I'm not that keen on promarkers as they have a bullet point end rather than a brush nib but a lot of the uk ladies use them as they're slightly cheaper than ciaos.

Strictly speaking you need sketch for the airbrush system as the holder is designed for the chunkier pens but if you stick a blob of bluetack in it you can use ciaos.
