Oozak.com has the best prices, even after he had to raise them the first of the year. I've looked and looked. LOL

If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, you can use 40% off coupons and that makes them $4.24 each. I bought the sets that they have, and a few singles that way.

I totally agree with Mel...Oozak.com does have the BEST prices. Fast Shipping. and FREE shipping on order over 50. I just got the 12 new colors today and it was only yesterday that I got the shipping notification by email.
Awesome I tell ya.

I have noticed a lot of places have stopped selling the trio "kits".
You can still get them that way from: Clear and Simple Stamps

Another one is JustRite. Although they sell the markers individually, there's a PDF with their "Color Collections" of trios and quads: http://www.justritestampers.com/pdfs...WEB-4-2011.pdf

Oozak is my favorite place to buy also...they have the best prices online and the service is awesome. Being in Michigan I'm lucky that if I place an order by the 3:30 deadline, I generally get the markers the next day. Near-instant gratification! lol

Quick question - what kind of cardstock do you prefer for Copics? I usually use Whisper White at the moment because I get pretty good results, but have Gina K also. I've run into similar problems mentioned earlier with streaking or shiny looks when I use that paper, so I don't use it much for coloring anymore.
I'm looking to branch out and try others, so I'd love to hear your ideas!
*If this has been mentioned before in this sticky, I apologize, it's just that with nearly 500 posts to this thread it's a lot to go through! *

I had been using GP white that I can get by the ream at Office Depot, but lately, I've just started using the X-Press it Copic Blending Paper that I bought awhile back. I really like it. It's a little pricey, but great to work on .

Hi, Melanie --

My current favorite is Hammermill Color Copy Cover. Here are some reviews:

Forums at Splitcoaststampers

Forums at Splitcoaststampers

MissAlaineous' Mosaics: Paper for Copics

If you have an Xpedx store near you, they probably can give you a free sample to try before you buy. I picked up samples of about eight different brands of cardstock and took them out to my car to test with Copics. Then I went back in to purchase the Hammermill. Amazon also carries it.

I started off with the Neenah Classic White and have been happy with it. However I recently bought a couple of others that I really like as well if not better; the X-Press It Copic Blending Paper (I agree with Maggie, great to use, a little pricier but worth it), and the Cryogen Iridescent White, just got it and very pretty, gives a subtle sparkle to your work.

I love Gina K's products, however I either got a couple of bad batches of paper, because I tried twice but her white 120 lb. didn't work well for me. The colors weren't the same to blend, so I've saved it for my cards and other mediums. I still love her stuff though....

I agree with you about Gina K products. I love her 120# paper too, but I use it mainly as a card base when I make one with white. So sturdy and it holds everything else I put on it so well.

I guess I'm going to have to find some of that Cryogen Iridescent White. Sounds pretty.

Here's the link for the Cryogen:
https://www.papertemptress.com/resul...&Submit=Search

Like the Copic paper, it's a little pricier, but looks so nice on your card, and especially depending on what image you're stamping. I saw it recommended through Suzanne Dean's blog and on line classes and everyone was raving about it. It's so pretty......

Thanks so much for the recommendations! I'd love to try the X-press It, but it's a bit out of my price range at the moment. I think I'll give the Hammermill a try...it sounds similar to the SU 80lb CS I currently use (and am almost out of). Looks like I can find 60lb in my local Staples or Walmart, but doesn't look like anyone carries 80lb, so I'll probably go through Amazon. I think 60lb might just be too thin for my liking since I'm so used to 80lb.
As for the Gina K, I think I'll just use it for card bases. I agree that the weight is awesome but it just doesn't work for me as a coloring cardstock.

I use Cryogen a lot and it's wonderful for copic color, it blends like butter.
X-press it is an excellent paper, too, and a better choice than Cryogen for those images where you don't want the shimmer that Cryogen has.

I use GinaK for card bases primarily and for coloring images where I won't be doing a lot of blending.

I've tried the Hammermill and I thought it was horrible for copics though I've read that others like it.

I do recommend you see if there is an Xpedx near you.

https://www.xpedx.com/locate-us.aspx

My nearest is down in El Paso, so while I was there for a medical appointment I stopped by the Xpedx store and came home with 4 reams, including 80lb and 100lb Hammermill. That was a good day.

I LOVE the Hammermill! I still buy the GP from Walmart for the kids to use so they don't use up my "Good" cardstock!

Default Copic Classes

I have a question for those who have taken beginner copic classes at your LSS.

How many images were provided for the class?

How many copic markers were provided for the class?

Were you required to purchase any copic markers for the class?

I have been asked to teach classes but I am not sure how best to approach the problem of the participants having little or no markers without the class costing a fortune.

I don't want those who take the class to be disappointed if I chose for instance a floral image to color that used three colors.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

When I had my store and we hired a lady(Shari Carroll) to come in, she provided all the markers for the class. Of course they could of bought their own too but it was a lot easier with her bringing all the supplies she used. She brought the 72 case with 3 of each set so they could decided what color they wanted to use.

Maybe if you don't want to make them feel as they have to buy they can just bring in any family color they want??

She did 3 floral images but they also put them on cards. She charged $35.00 or $40.00

Another store by us has someone who is certified and she does classes and you have to buy their markers she uses if you don't have them already. They charged $45.00 for the class and that included the markers and I think it was $30.00 if you had them. I heard a lot of ladies complain about it. They didn't want to feel obligated to buy something they may not like or use.

I hope this helps you in some way. And good luck!!

When I took beginner class at LSS it was $35 we received 3 markers to take home in blue and we colored the same image several ways on a big sheet of cardstock and airbrushed too. I did not mind buying the markers because I wanted to buy them. Her classes were very popular and everymonth she did a new color family. (you were able to bring your own markers and pick any 3 colors from the store's selection).

The first class I went to at my LSS was only $25 and included 3 markers. We had use of the stores other colours and if we had one of the coloured markers that were included in the lesson we were able to choose a different colour. It seems our classes are cheaper here in Australia which surprises me.
My LSS charges $6 each for the markers, so it made the lesson very good value.

I love my Copics but because of alot of personal "events" I have not been using them regularly. Now I am using them again (and thrilled) but several of them were kinda "drippy" I had them stored in a caddy bag upright. I thought that perhaps they should have been on their side. I googled and saw upright was the right way and I also saw a couple of postings that said either was ok.

How should they be stored? Or why are my markers so juicy now that I am using them again. I have them on their side at the moment hoping that will settle them down.

Bonnie,

Copic Markers can be stored either upright or horizontal without any damage to the marker or nibs. I keep mine in a Color Cubbie (a discontinued storage tower), and they sit almost horizontal with a slight slant.

They could be juicier at one end if that tip has been stored in a downward position for a long time, but it's not a defect. Storing on the side is good to balance them out if you're having a concern. I would also recommend pulling the caps off of both ends of the marker at the same time. This should help draw some of the excess ink back into the barrel. If you still have a bit of excess on one end, just dab it on a paper towel or scratch paper a time or two.

The only product that Copic sells with a definite recommended storage is the Spica Glitter pen. Keep those horizontal since there are thousands of tiny glass particles in each pen barrel. The glass could settle at either end of the pen with prolonged upright storage.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Lori!

I forgot about taking the caps off of both ends. I bet that will help.

Default Hammermill Cardstock ?

I live in Southern CA and have tried looking for the Hammermill cardstock that many of you have mentioned. I have tried Office Depot, Office Max, and Staples and all they carry is a very lightweight Hammermill. There is no Expedit store in my area.

I have been using Georgia Pacific 110lb from Walmart and so far its working ok for me, but would like to be able to have another choice without having to order one from on line. Can anyone suggest a store in my area that does carry Hammermill?

Thanks,
Dani

I got mine at Kelly Paper, do you have one near you? Another option is to Google "Hammermill cardstock in......" putting in your location, and see what stores carry it. See if that helps, good luck!

Since you're ordering online, Amazon's current price for the 80 lb Hammermill Color Copy Cover is $10.00, with free shipping on orders over $25. That's the best price I've seen it.

Default FREE Copic marker storage block

I bought one of these and it didn't fit in my storage plans like I thought it would. If anyone is interested in it you can have for free just pay shipping. Email me at : [email protected] and let me know. Thanks!
