I finally have the need for the CD cases to store my growing collection of Clear Stamps....
I read that a standard case can hold stamps on both sides, front and back...will the slim work for holding stamps on just one side?
Are the CD trays inside usually easily removeable?
Does anyone hate this method of clear stamp storage??
Anyone using colored ones to differentiate brands...styles...etc?
It looks like the simplest cheapest solution...
Thanks!
Hey CJ, did we PM about this before? Forgive me if I've shared my viewpoint with you.
In response to your questions:
Yes the trays are easily removable; they just pop out.
I don't hate this method, but I did find another method that worked better for me after I tried this one.
As far as cheap, I found the photo boxes a little more economical and better room for expansion.
This, of course, is mho; I'm sure someone will be along who loves the CD method. The important thing is that you're happy with your choice; depending on how many stamps you have, it can be a pretty big commitment.
I've just started to buy more unmounted stamps and have been unmounting some of my favorite stamps. I am currently using CD cases to hold all of my unmounted stamps that are currently on ez mount foam.
Yes, the trays are easily removable. I've only been able to store on one side since mine are on ez mount foam. But I think if you use the thinner ez mount, you may be able to store on both sides. For sure, if you use just store just the rubber, you should be able to store on both sides (using double sided tape to keep the stamps in place). If you decide just to use the rubber, I have heard using tack n peel that you put on your acrylic blocks is a great way to cut down on buying ez mount. As far as the thin CD cases are concerned, they are way too slim to fit any unmounted stamps in.
If you want to buy a CD cases in bulk, I've got a great recommendation from KimberlyinMN...you can buy from www.rima.com and they come in a box of 200 for $24 + shipping (I think). But even with shipping, it is more inexpensive than buying from Wal-mart and any of the other office supply stores.
For ez mount foam, you can buy the thin and regular ones at Cornish Heritage Farms. The regular ez mount comes in a 8x10 sheet for $3.49. You can get a whole bunch and it's free shipping for orders over $35.
Hope this helps a little!
Binx: I would be interested as well to know how you are storing your unmounted stamps in a photo box. If they are not in CD cases, where are you mounting the stamps on so you know which set goes with what?
I went the CD storage route for awhile. But Now I'm using a 9x9 Scrapbook to store all my Clear Stamps in.
I just attached the clear backing from the Clear stamps to the White insert and then place the insert back into the Scrapbook. I have about 8 pages filled now with them.
And for my unmounted rubber stamps I use the White Storage board and have them in a 3-ring Notebook.
These two things have saved me ton's of Space.
anyone needing extra CD cases. I have some I'd be willing to get rid of.
I have recently unmounted all of my SU sets (about 350 sets) and I use CD cases for storage. I tried the notebook route for my first unmounted stamps and decided that I did not like this method. It takes a lot more space IMHO. You can only get a few pages in a 3 inch notebook. I only had about 3 sets that did not fit in one CD case and I just used 2 and labeled them 1 of 2 and 2 of 2. I have pictures in my gallery in the Stamp Room album.
This summer I unmounted every last stamp I had, excluding the card-size background stamps. I have them all in clear CD cases on a shelf to the left of my stamping table. I love it! They're all within easy reach.
Each CD case has a 4-3/4" square of white cardstock in the front with the images stamped on it.
If I needed more than one case for an SU set, I just put 1 of 2 etc on the case. Each case is labeled on both side spines.
I just use a cheap mouse pad under my cardstock when stamping.
I use CD cases for my clear stamps. The ones I have that are mounted on foam are stores this way too. They are stored in a cd tower that sits beside my desk. I types labels for the spine of the cd case and used hilighters to color code the labels by company.
My unmounted, plain rubber ones are stored in a three ring binder in baseball card sleeves.
I use CD cases as it's easy for me and I had a whole BUNCH I was about to throw out.. I don't used colored ones, i actually use a labeler and just add a label to the side of it.
I LOVE my clear CD cases. I bought them at Target for like $5.00/10 pk. In addition, I bought an unpainted CD storage rack to store them in @ Joanne's on sale for about $4.99. This system works great for me. What I do is save the clear sheet with the images on them? and tape the image sheet to the inside of the lid so I can easily tell what stamps are in the container. It was a cheap and easy solution for me. :p
