Hi, is this old news? I haven't cleaned my sponge daubers before, just wiped them on the paper to remove extra chalk, but had a technique class featuring chalks and need to clean them. How do you do it? TIA!

Rinse them under hot water. Most, if not all, of the ink should come off.
I have 10 of them. One for blues, one for greens, etc. When they get dirty just twirl most of the ink off onto a piece of paper and then use the color you want. It really does work.

thanks for sharing this - i've always wondered if those daubers could be washed. i hadn't bought any b/c i was worried that i couldn't use them after one time!
 So do I - and I covered the labels with tape to keep them clean - hows that for a n a l??? ROFL!!!
I *used* to clean my daubers (just with dish soap in the sink) and it worked fine - but I found it easier to just start labelling them per color as I use them quite often for almost all the colors.

Can you buy the daubers in a local craft store like Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Joanns?
Joanns by me sells the little finger daubers. They are high on the wall where the ink pads are sold. Kinda hard to find. I believe there are 3 in a package for a cost of something like $3.99 per package.
My husband will love the fact that I can wash these little things. I've been spending a fortune on them.
Thanks for the tip.

I love the idea of getting all 48, one for each color. Stampin Up has them $10.95 for 12.

next question...how do you store them for those of you that have such a collection of them
I use a small SU stamp container (the kind the really small sets come in like the "stamped by" stamps). It will hold a dozen daubers standing upright in the box so that you can see the color the dauber has been used for through the lid of the container. They are easy to transport this way and are also easy to locate when you need them.
I've seen them at Michael's, but have never bought them. What does everyone use them for?
Sponging subtle color around/ behind an image - for example, a soft blue sky above a row of flowers. I mainly use them for sponging color on the outside edges of panels to create depth and interest. It will make a layer stand out from a background in a subtle and interesting way.

Eek! Me too. I keep them in a couple of plastic boxes I bought at a stamp show. The sections are just the right size for each dauber. I have them separated by color family -- one dauber for each color -- and I put little labels around them and covered them in Scotch tape.
I've discovered that I need at least 2 daubers per color - one for light shades and one for med to dark. If you use the dauber for really dark inks (for example Night of Navy) and then try to use it with a light tone in the color group (Soft Sky), the dauber will leave a much darker ink on the paper than you may have intended. By dedicating a dauber for light and for dark, I've avoided this "surprise"! Hope this makes sense...
Ink your daubers from the pad, or if you don't have a pad, you can scribble a marker on a piece of plastic like a cool-whip lid or styrofoam plate. Then ink your dauber from that.
They're really quite wonderful for subtle textures.
And SU has them as cheap as anywhere I've seen.
