Default Can dried up Distress Crackle Paint be salvaged?

I purchased about 8 bottles of this stuff. When I opened them that day to use them, I noticed a few had paint that was nice and "flowy" but others had very thick paint. Those ones have now dried up. I screwed the caps on tight so I don't know how it happened.

Any tricks to making the dried up ones usable again? I don't want to throw them out if I don't have to!!!

Thanks.

I think you can add water to them to loosen 'em up a bit.

Otherwise, contact Ranger's Customer Service. They're friendly and fabulous.

Tim Holtz suggests water. I've had a few dried jars too, one worked with water, two did not. I guess it depends on how dry they are.

I have no idea if this will work but if all else fails, maybe putting the jar in hot water and letting it sit for a while will "loosen" it up?

Thanks for the ideas. I emailed Ranger but I'm going to try adding water and immersing in hot water. I have nothing to lose by trying!

I believe Tim says in his video about the paint to use mini mister with water (I guess so you don't get too much water). I have done this then stir with craft stick & it's always works fine & doesn't hurt the paint. Maybe check out his video-it seems this is normal for the paint and I have gotten brand new sealed ones that are already dried.

I've added water and it worked great. The only problem I had was one one completed dried out. No matter what I did nothing helped.

Default Not sure if they're acrylic...

I have revived glow-in-the-dark paint using textile medium. It is sold near acrylic paints and used for painting on fabric. If the crackle is acrylic based, you might be able to use textile medium. You may have to crush it first if it's completely dried up.

I'm pretty sure that the distress paints are acrylic in nature rather than water based. I don't think you can get that crackle effect with water based paints.

So if the paint has completely dried out you pretty much have no hope. Once acrylic paint is dry it is permanent (though you can remove it with acetone or goof off, but it doesn't reconstitute it, they just break down the paint). If the paint is still moist a bit then you can add water or if water isn't work great you can always try acrylic paint thinner.

Mine came back to life with a few spritzes of my mini mister. Mine may not have been as dry as yours maybe. They and the paint daubers have been spritzed and work ok for me.
