When you "thread" a button to use on a card, do you use normal sewing thread, or something else? I see that SU has some "linen thread" ... is that a good thing to buy? I'm just wondering ... I havent used many buttons but I have so many and want to start using them more. Every time I see one of Anna Wight's cards I think buttons, I must add buttons! Any advice about the "thread" you use?
I've only added a few buttons here and there, and I've used the SU linen thread. I would think any kind of thread would work, but the thicker the better. Depends on how you want the finished look to be. I like to tie it off and have the ends stick up, so I think the linen thread looks better.

I think you would want something more substantial than regular sewing thread.
You can get a small ball of hemp twine at Walmart or Joanns that works nicely for tying buttons if you like a more "homespun" look.
I have also used colored embroidery floss to match the button, and all colors of crochet thread work well. I have a big ball of natural/beige crochet thread that I use on all colors of buttons, too.
Paper Trey sells a wonderful twine for buttons, but I haven't ordered it yet.
I use embrodiery floss to make the button looked sewn on, but then I use a glue dot to attach the button to the CS. It's a lot easier than actually sewing the button onto the card.

And at somewhere between 25 and 40 cents a skein, you can buy lots of different colors of DMC embroidery floss without breaking the bank! It's six strands and you can use as many or as few as you'd like to get the thickness that you want.
Crochet thread is my favorite! It's cheap and looks really nice, and is a little thinner and easier to work with than embroidery floss, IMO.
You know, I like it too. And what is so funny is that I crochet and have lots of thread around. It did not occur to me to use it for buttons until recently. Duh!

Another vote for the embroidery floss! Love how cheap it is so I can get it in LOTS of colors and it's easy to find locally. (I hate online shopping! lol)
I like the idea of crochet thread, too. I'll have to pick some of that up!

I use various embroidery threads since I'm also a stitcher with a large thread stash. DMC is nice for the price and color choices. Linen and crochet thread add a homespun look and both can be used without a needle.
I haven't tried sewing buttons on cards yet-I use a glue dot. I want to try the Papertrey Inc threads, partly because they come on those nice wooden spools!
Love embroidery thread. You can get it variegated so you can add even more prettiness to your card. They have metallic, fluorescent, any color you can think of.
If you live in Europe all you girls are lucky enough to get your hands on Anchor stash. I have to buy tiny bits at a time here in the USA. All my Anchor collection are in Tatty Teddy colors, lol.
