I used one long before I became a demo. Love it - nice crisp even fold creases. Have sold many by using it during a workshop. Don't you remember using a pencil (leaves yellow marks) or a ruler (other marks) on the edge of your paper in school? Go for it!
I LOVE my bone folder!! It was one of the first items I purchased when I began making cards, and now, I can't live without it!! It makes the cards much more professional looking, just having that clean, crisp fold! I use the flat side to make my folds, because I worry that using the edge of the bone folder will scrape my paper. Works great for me! Buy one!! They aren't that expensive!! Karen.
I'm with Jody, they're great. I think I have about 3 of them. I'm terribly disorganized and have replaced it a couple of times and then finally found them all. ;-)
They're great for getting a crisp fold. I also use them for scoring. If you have a paper trimmer that slides on a track you can place you paper under the track - line it up on the mark but instead of running the cutter you can put your bone folder in the slot and score. Hope that made sense, it's really quite simple once you see it.
I went for such a long time without one, but now that I have one, I use it on every card.
And it's the best tool for unlayering layers that you've adhered together - it slips underneath and you can pry the layers apart without damaging either layer. Then you can reposition.
I've noticed that the SU one is much less flexible than the Provo one, which I like. When I used a friend's Provo one, it flexed and I though I might snap in two!
I use mine all of the time. I use it for folding and scoring obviously but I also learned a new trick in the past few weeks. When you put a brad through something and then spread the little arms on the back side, lay it down with the backside up and place your bone flat on the table on top of the two little arms and push down. It works really well to flatten the brad and makes it easier to glue it down because it is that much flatter against the paper....Hope that makes sense.
I have several because I lose them all the time. The cheap plastic ones work fine too but don't let your 5 year old get ahold of it because then it's all colored up and glittered which is the reason that I have a BRAND SPANKING NEW one! LOL

hhave one. love it. you might consider getting a teflon one however, it doesn't cause the "sheen" the bone folders (real and plastic) causes when burnishing.

Most bone folders are made of real bone, and they are a basic papercrafting/cardmaking tool. It is a simple tool for those sharp crisp folds that make the difference between a good and better card.
Does the bone folder work better than the scoring blade for a Fiskars trimmer? I haven't tried the bone folder that I have yet because I have the scoring blade. I guess I'll have to compare.

I have both the fiskars trimmer/scorer and a bone folder. After scoring the paper with the fiskars tool, I fold the paper at the score mark and then use the bone folder to make a crisper fold. I sometimes just use the bone folder if I'm in a hurry and don't need the trimmer for the card I am making. I plan to get another one because like others have said, I seem to misplace it. Or it sometimes gets lost under all my paper while I'm making cards and I'd like to grab another! I couldn't live without one.
I love my bone folder, it makes such nice crisp folds. Some will tell you that you can use a spoon, I just don't think it works as well. The bone folder to me, slides easier on the cardstock.
Help! Where do I find a "Bone Folder"? I tried Michaels and Hobby Lobby today, nothing. Is the only place to get good one SU? Yes I am rather new to Carding and Stamping I just started this last Winter and still learning, but I love it.

In our Mikes they have the bone folders by the punches and rollagraph stuff. They are pretty spendy, about three times the price I paid for my ProvoCraft bone folder I purchased elsewhere. I've seen two shapes of bone folders, the one that is straight all the way down except for at the tip, where it is tapered to a gentle point is the most common in my experience. The other is kind of sinuous looking, like a stretched-out S. I'm not sure what the difference is, as I just have the simpler looking one.
My PC folder is pretty rigid; I've never had it flex on me, but I guess if you do some strenuous stamping maybe that is more of an issue.
I'm in Canada so I only know Canadian pricing. In our Mike's the bone folders are ~$12 CAD (maybe about $10 USD?) and I've seen the ProvoCraft folders for ~$4 CAD. I think I may have gotten mine for ~$5; I've found the price can vary a lot from store to store up here. Here are the ones I found on addictedtoscrapbooking.com
Mahloumel Thank You Again. I spend the Winter with a lot of Candian's at Llano Grande in Mercedes TX that's where I became interested in Card Making and Stamping. As a bunch of people they are a lot of fun, they come down with their RV and Trailers. They enjoy visiting and talking as I walk the campground.
Thanks again.
I'm so glad I could be of some help, Fern! I am leaving to move to Texas this coming Monday, so that'll be one more Canadian down your way. Sometimes it sure seems like a small world.
I couldn't do without my bone folder! I actually have 3...one "real" one and 2 plastic. They all work, but I love the weight and feel of the true bone. It's a quality thing.

Where does one buy a TEFLON one? I don't like the "sheen" I am getting with my bone folder. :-) LM
I have a SU bone folder, really like it and use it all the time. But if you need an extra one or can't find yours, a good substitute is one of those little square scrapers from Pampered Chef. You know, the thing you use to clean your stoneware. They are easy to hang on to and give a nice edge to your fold.

oh and BTW, you all are responsible for me spending $21. ;) I have been wanting a teflon bone folder for some time. I can't stand the shiny on the cardstock when using a regular bone folder. I will now have shine free creases. I just ordered the teflon bone folder from paper source. See what I get for trying to be helpful? LOL
