Has anyone tried filling Blender Pens with Gamsol for the Gamsol Magic technique? The stumps are a pain in the behind to use and with my precious kitty around I am nervous about having mineral spirits around.
Thanks, Melinda
I haven't tried the blender pens, but for the mineral spirits, this is what I do. I keep the large can of spirits safely behind closed doors in a cupboard (because we have precious kids and a kitty too!) and I used an old SU glitter container to put just a splash of mineral spirits in to use when I am coloring. So it has a lid on it to close tightly, can be put away easily, and I have done that now for more than a year with no sign of the spirits affecting the plastic. HTH
I would think the Mineral Spirits would melt the tip of the Blender Pen - doubt the water and glycerin would mix with it well. Somebody, please prove me wrong! I would love for this to work.

I would love to know if someone does this too..I hate those stumps..they are a pain in the butt to work with. I can never get them sharp enough so my colors dont bleed in the small areas that Im coloring. Plus they seem to need sharpening all the time.
Stamping Bella has 2 different size stumps, size 2 to get into small spaces & size 4. It won't let me post a link. So go to Stampingbella.com & go to tools section on the site & you will see the 2 different size stumps. I have never used the pencils yet myself, I have them on my Christmas wish list. Hope this helps.
That sounds great, if it will work. I bought (haven't used yet) the blending tortillons. There are somewhat different than the stumps but same principle. I was going to suggest those but they would not help with your kitty cat situation. You could for now at least keep them in a school box. Those are great for all kinds of storage. Good luck!
I use Fantastix by Tsukineko. They work well for me. I can go from one color to the next by simply rinsing the tip in more mineral spirits. I also bought some make-up applicators that work great. They are sort of a combination of Q-Tips and sponge applicators. And I can use them several times before throwing them away.
I have Prismacolors and bought the mineral spirits and never have used them.
I have kittycats and a dh with breathing problems and decided not to go there.
You really can get pretty good results with the pencils alone, just shading, layering, using slightly darker and lighter colors over each other. The pressure you color with makes quite a bit of difference, too.
I think I stopped stressing about coloring techniques when a friend was talking about a card I sent her. She said, "Oh gosh, you COLORED that? I thought the stamps came already colored and you just stamped them that way."

I too have a kitty and 3 kiddies ;). I keep my "jug" of spirits put away, but I pour some in a 2 oz. double wall jar. I put a piece of sponge in the jar, it absorbs the spirits and then I just touch the stub to the sponge...works great!!! I agree that the blender pen tips would not be strong enough to blend the colors.
Just my 2 cents...

I have used a susbstitute and it works great because gamsol is not the easiest to find. It is an odorless, nontoxic thing called turpenine..you can get it at michaels and ac moore.
