Red face Big shot thinlets what's needed

Hi!
I'm a new to the big shot and dont want to put out a bunch of extra money just yet on stuff that may "not" be needed. But when I order the big shot, to use the framelets/thinlets can I use the plates that come with the standard big shot or do i HAVE to order the other plates as well (the magnetic one and the precision plate) or will what comes with the big shot work for now?

From Sizzix.com Catalog (a great reference):

Thinlits Dies are compatible with Big Shot™, BIGkick™ and Vagabond™ Machines with the machine’s included platform; when using the Essentials Platform or Solo Platform & Shim, the Extended Adapter or Solo Adapter is required.

I only have a couple of Thinlet sets but have lots thin dies from other companies and have never needed anything but the basic platform along with the 2 plates and very occasionally a shim - aka extra piece of cardstock.

The exception to this would be the very intricate dies that everyone seems to have trouble with no matter what.
