I know there is a post about the Cuttlebug and Big Shot but I would like to know if you can use the dies that SU sells with the Cuttlebug. Thanks, Carol
The XL dies require an XL plate. I don't know if there is an XL plate for the CB.
Actually, I've been using 4 B plates for this. I just run the XL plate through with 2 B plates on top (side by side for the length of the XL plate) and 2 B plates on the bottom. Works great!!!

Hmm...do you attach them somehow or how do you keep them from shifting?

The sandwich is tight enough that they don't shift when I send them through my cuttlebug. I've done a quick tutorial on how I do it on my blog. I hope this helps!!!

Thank-you Amy!! Great tutorial. I didn't want to replace my cuttlebug to use the new dies, so I wasn't going to buy any even though I like them. Yikes! There goes my budget again! BTW Love your new blog.....

I was told by my DD upline that the Sizzx dies can break your Cuttlebug. She gave a Cuttlebug as a Mother's day gift this year. When I showed her the little gable boxes I'd cut with the CB and lg die, she told me to be careful the the CB isn't as sturdy as the BigShot or other Sizzx machines. She said that she heard that the platforms broke on the CB when the lg SX dies were used. I think the Sizzlets and EB folders would work without a problem, since they are about the same size as the CB & CuttleKids dies.
I bought a set of extra long plates for the sizzix at Micheal's and use them in my cuttle bug. I also got some of the extra long sizzix dies to use with them.
Wow, this is great!! I wanted some of those SU dies, but didn't want to pay the money for another machine. Now that I know I can use my CB, I will order a couple and try them out!! Thanks for the tutorial Amy!

when using sizzix dies (not necessarily XL ones) the sandwich I use is the same. Leave out the spacer & use b plate, card, die facing down & then another B plate.
Have never had any problems.
Okay, I was going to go pick up a cuttlebug after seeing all the cute embossed cards, now I am wondering what machine would be best...
I would love to emboss and cut out felt and fabric as well as cardstock
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

It is true that you can use the XL Sizzix dies in the Cuttlebug! The problem is the XL Sizzix plates don't fit (too wide). You can place cuttlebug plates end to end in order to use the XL Sizzix dies, but you do get a little crease where the plates meet. For those like me who are OCD and can't bear to see the crease, you can buy the XL Sizzix plates (they call them "cutting pads") and if you have access to a rotary saw you can trim off about 1/4 inch and they fit just fine.

I had wondered if they would work. I made a special trip to Michael's the other day just to measure them. There's only about 1/8" difference on the width. I'm so excited that this will work. It is exactly what I was thinking of trying!! Guess now I'll have to wait on another 40-50% off coupon!! I had also thought about putting the 2 CB plates end to end, and using 4 plates, but wondered if it would make an indention where they meet. I'd much rather be able to use the longer Sizzix plates. A great big TFS!!
This is all so confusing. Why are the answers so different. You have absolutely and then there is no way (other threads). You can use this product but not that one. UGHH! I am totally confused and teetering precariously on the fence.
I guess the only way to know for sure is to buy the cutting pads and try it myself. Then if it doesn't work I will HAVE to buy the BS. LOL

The Big Shot dies CAN be used in the cuttlebug.... see my tutorial here for an explanation. I think people are posting that they can not be used because Sizzix says the dies are 6 inches wide, when in reality, they are smaller. Perhaps this is part of their marketing to get people to buy their machine? I don't really know. I've been using all sizes of the Bigz and Bigz XL dies in my cuttlebug with no problem. I hope my tutorial helps clear up your confusion. If not, pm me and I'd be happy to help you out further.
can one emboss with the Big Shot too? I have a customer who has the CB embossing things, and wants to know if she can use it in the Big shot?
thank you
Where can I see these dies from SU as I am not a demo so I haven't seen any to know what you are talking about, and what is Top Note die???
You will be able to see these dies in the upcoming Winter Mini, which should be coming out in the next couple of weeks. My demo sent me a copy of the pages with the dies on it because they can be ordered now, before that catty is in effect. I suspect that someone here has a file they would share showing the dies (I'm not computer savvy enough to do this, sorry!)
The Top Note die is a large curvy rectangle die - imagine a shape like the new curvy label punch , but that is much larger. It almost fills the front of a normal card front (card the size of a 1/4 of cardstock). Do a search in the gallery for BigZ Top Note die and be prepared to drool at the card samples!
Thanks sooo much Amy for putting the instructions on your blog. I now will have to put that die cut on my wish list for SU. I really like those styles they have for the Big Shot so now I can buy them. Thanks again, Beckaroni :p

has anyone tried the little sizzlets, that SU sells in their CB? What sandwich do you use? The plates are so thin, I can't seem to get them to work.
Thanks for your help.

In my CB, I use the big A plate, then the B plate, the sizzlet with cutting face up, cardstock, then the B plate. However, with one of the SU snowflake sizzlets, I had to add a shim to make it cut - I used a recycled piece from a cracker box.
The directions I have from SCS say that the manufacturer recommends using a B plate and a C plate instead of 2 B plates - HOWEVER, the ladies at SCS said that many people had cracked or broken their plates doing this...which means the stack was too thick for the machine.
I would say that you should experiment with adding thin cardstock shims to the stack until you find just the right recipe for your Cuttlebug. That's how I settled on the cracker box for mine (it was the equivilant of 3 thin pieces of CS and it was easier to use one piece instead of 3! ;) ).
Keep trying, you'll eventually find the sammy! :-D
I used my CB with my nestabilities I needed 42 ovals and scallops and really cut into the plate, should this have happened or did I do something wrong.
Please advise on how I should stack my sandwich with the nestablities.
Thanks

Cutting into the plates is perfectly normal. If you are getting nice cuts with the stacks you have, keep doing what you are doing. I've noticed that if I place the nestie in a slightly different position on the plate each time I run it through that it doesn't wedge into the plate as often. I think that if you put it in the same place every time it makes the sticking worse. Just my opinion.
Wow....I'm so happy to hear this. I seen some of the Big Shot die cuts and loved them but didn't want the expense of the machine so now I can buy the dies and use them in my CB....yipeee...you made my day. Happy Stamping !! Beckaroni

This is the first time I have asked questions on a "thread" or Post, whatever this is!! So, if I want to use the SU Scallop Bag XL die cut from the big shot in my cuttlebug, it really is going to work?? If so I am SOOO excited!! Can anyone give me the dimensions of the finished scallop bag? Thanks so much for your assistance!

Just wanted to add something that I have experienced with using the nesties and Sizzix dies in my Cuttlebug. While I think that they work fine together for personal use - I was doing a class and needed to cut many things out and I found that after cutting a fair number the sandwich started to get stuck in the Cuttlebug and wouldn't move forward any more. I had to play with the sandwich to get them to go completely through the Cuttlebug. So while I didn't want to spend the money on the Big Shot I finally decided that I needed to make the investment. I didn't want my Cuttlebug broken. I just don't think it is as heavy duty as the BS is. Just my thoughts!
Have a super great day!!

That's odd that your Bug would hesitate to take the same sized sandwich with additional cuts. It's not like the Bug overheats from use since it is powered by "arm strong"... ha...;) However, when I was doing lots and lots of nestie cuts at Christmas-time, I noticed that the more I cut the more careless I was with the alignment of the cutting plates. On occasion, I would have the Bug hesitate to take the sandwich and every time it was operator error - the C & B plates were off kilter and would push on the inside throat of the Bug. Not good, because if I had kept cranking I might have broken the machine.

Yep, I have had the big shot since it was just ellison making it and not sizzix...I have many embossing folders and love it...you just need the spacer and the top and bottom plates and it works perfectly.
