I have the worst trouble with gel pens... I can't seem to find one that will work EVERYTIME I want to use it. Are they all this way?
I always store horizontal, so I know I'm not causing uneven distribution in the barrell.... or is that my problem? SHould I store vertical?
Is there one brand of pen in particular that is the BEST? What have you discovered?
I am open to paint pens if they have a super teeny tiny tip...
Please share your white pen suggestions with me, I am tired of wasting money on pens that don't work after a few uses.
Many people (myself included) swear by the White Gel pen sold by SU. I am an SU demo, but even my customers who work at Archivers order 4-5 of them at a time.
The Inkssentials one by Ranger is hands down the best one I have owned. I also like the white glaze pen by Sakura, but it's not as smooth and consistent as the Ranger one.
I have used the Uni-Ball Signo pens sold by Stampin Up for a few years with no problems. I also have the Inkssentials but prefer the Signo. I store mine vertically but do not know if this makes a difference.
Thanks! I've also used the one from SU, and those worked well when they first started carrying them, but they started acting up about a year ago, so I quit buying them.
I think I'm going to try the Inkssentials one! Can't wait to try it!
Thanks again.
My SU white gel pen ran out in the middle of my project, so I ran to Michael's and bought EVERY brand of white gel pen they carried...hoping ONE of them would be good and last me through the project. Needless to say, I had issues with every single pen after a few minutes. I was so glad for my new SU pen to arrive...I was back in business!
I still love my Sakura white gel pen, from Michaels. I've had the same one for maybe 3 years now? And still works, maybe just starting to get dried out. But if I just write a little slower and give time for ink to flow it works great! And for $3, I don't mind replacing it more often.
I swear by my SU! pens - I don't want to jinx it but they haven't failed me yet  . I did try a buch from Michaels, but they were all awful, now I always keep a few SU! extras on hand so I never run out mid-project!

I really like the SU one, but I was having problems with it. I didn't want to throw it away because there was still so much left, so I tried fixing it and it worked! Just unscrew the silver tip and take out the tube that holds the ink, then pull the metal tip off. There is a little clear piece of plastic inside of that. Take that out too. Then just rinse the clear piece and the ball point part. I also used a needled to push around inside the ball point part with the water running over it. I just did this until the water ran clear. Then put everything back together and shake it. Mine works perfectly now! I think the ink had just dried inside the ball or something.
I have a stack of gel pens of all colours and brands, some cheap, some dearer. The only ones that I have to replace constantly are the white ones. I am yet to try the Ranger one though, heres hoping, lol.
what i use is the bic white out squeeze pen, you can buy anywhere in stationery aisle, i like the squeeze type because you get use it as a finer line or thicker line, i have tried so many and was only satisfied with the bic.
What a coincedence I'm reading this right now.. I was just needing to add a few white highlights on some cards and reached for my SU white one. It has only been used a few times.. still plenty of ink, but I couldn't get it to flow. I scribbled and scribbled, like I do with most ball points when they don't work, and it helped, but then it was stop and go. Definitely frustrating.
I'm going to try taking it apart and cleaning it as suggested above. And next time at an LSS, I'm going to buy the Ranger one.
I use the signo uniball white gel pen and it works great. This is the one stampin up carries - but you can probably get it cheaper on line somewhere. I did, but don't remember who I got it from cause I've had mine for a couple years...
I've had really good luck with Inkssentials also; if it does get stuck I've scribbled and also taken the end off and blown into it...idk if that really does anything, but it seems to have helped me. Maybe the warm air helps to get it going again.

Emily, thanks for giving us these instructions for cleaning out the SU white pen. I went to use mine a few days ago and it wouldn't write. I followed your steps to clean it out and voila... it writes great again! Thanks for letting us know about this.

I will have to try this on my other problem gel pens.
On the original subject, I really like my Ranger Inkssentials white pen and wish all my gel pens flowed as smoothly as this one! Maybe Ranger will branch out to other colors and keep the same quality I hope.

I used the same thing until I finally bought the SU pen and it works great for me. So now I keep both on hand. I like using the Wite-Out pen for doodling since you can get variations in your line thickness.

I have had issues with every other brand of white gel pen until I finally broke down and bought the SU one. Worth the money! It has worked perfectly from the day I got it. I do store it in a holder, nib side down. Don't know if that makes a difference.
