Default Best Pens for Journalling?

I need to buy new pens for journalling on scrapbook pages. What are your recommendations? I'd like to buy a set. Something that includes pens in earth tones as these are the colours I scrapbook in the most. I used to use Staedtler pens but they tended to be "scratchy" and skip. (That was ages ago that I had those so they may have improved; I don't know). Thanks!

I have journaling pens galore and my favorite from way back is still ZIG. But, since the death of almost all LSS, they are hard to find. If you have any big box stores near you, you could probably find a store brand or a new brand sold in sets in the fine art row, probably black only in the scrapbook row. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful on this search, it's needle in a haystack for good journaling pens now.

Another thought or two. While browsing the internet for pens, Sakura Micron popped up often and the colors look nice. Also, companies that are deep into planners like MAMBI and Erin Condon have pens packaged for planner users but would work equally well for old-school scrapbook journaling.

You could try JetPens, they have a wide inventory and they also have video comparisons of different pens and markers.

Do you want thin line or thick lines?

I use a big variety of pens for my journal: Le Pen, Tim Holtz distress markers, and this Primrosia set of watercolor markers. There aren’t a lot of earth colors, though—mostly pinks, purples, blues and greens.
But none of these will bleed through pages. I have the Staedtler as well but don’t use them as often.
