Default Best Machine to Use Nestabilities in??

Hi there!

I just received my first set of Nesties!! I have an Ellison Bigshot and used my Nesties for the first time in it and every cut came out embossed. Is that normal? I followed the Nestabilities suggestions for the Big Shot.

Does the cuttlebug emboss every cut? I am just weighing whether it is worth my while to buy yet another die cutting machine. ;)

Thanks!

I also have the Big Shot. I have the heart nesties and part of the heart is embossed when I cut with the die. When I use the embossing mats, around the outside is also embossed. They turn out very pretty. Hope this helps.

I use the big shot with my nesties...and i don't have any trouble with unwanted embossing. I use (in this order from bottom to top) the thick white plate, the rubber cutting mat, the clear plastic piece, the paper, the die, and then one of the hard black pieces...and then when I want to emboss...I just flip the clear piece and the rubber mat around.

Works like a charm!

I have the Cuttlebug and used 4 different shapes last night including the long rectangles with no problems at all. HTH

I posed this same question when I first got my Nesties and wizard machine. I used the sandwich to best cut and not emboss and I still would get a slight embossed outline. Some say it can be done without any embossing but I beg to differ. It happens each and every time. I've gotten over the fact that it will never be without slight embossing on one side of the cardstock.

In my opinion, you probably don't need to get another machine. It is just the dies themselves.........until someone gives the miracle sandwich that will not slightly emboss and prove me wrong.

I just tried my Nesties in my Wizard for the first time yesterday and I keep getting a light embossing when I cut as well. I would love some feedback and advice

I got my first set of nesties recently and used them in my Cuttlebug. I didn't see any embossing in the cut CS, until I changed to sandwich for embossing and ran it through again.

I just put mine away--got the circle and scalloped circle set today--and here is the sandwich I use in my Big Shot:

Sizzix Multipurpose platform on bottom, with all flaps closed so that the "Tab 2" layer is on top; then the clear bottom mat; then the nestie; then the paper; then the top clear mat.

I did get a very slight embossed image with that, but nothing I couldn't live with.

Then, to emboss:

The Multipurpose Platform on the bottom, but Tab 2 is opened up and "Tab 1" is what I'd be cutting on; then the clear bottom mat; then the nestie; then the paper; then the silicone embossing mat (mine is the Sizzix/Ellison purple one); then the Purple plastic mat that came with the S/E embossing package.

I get very nice embossing with this layering--and I also use this if I'm using regular brass dies to emboss with.

Just play around with it a little bit until you like it.

I use the Cuttlebug and have NEVER got an embossed image unless I want one and then i have to use the tan mat instead of cutting plates on the top. I love my bug and the nestabilities.

My Cuttlebug works great with Nesties. If you think you may want to invest in one then check out Creativexpress.com. They often have the Cuttlebug basic on sale for just $35. The basic consists of the Cuttlebug machine & plates only.

In my opinion, the Spellbinders Wizard machine is the best machine for the Nesetabilities, since it's made by the same manufacturer as the Nesties. I don't get unwanted embossing with the Wizard on the first cut but personally, that's what I love about all the Spellbinders dies -- that unmistakeable trademark embossing!

Let me know if you'd like more information about the Wizard. It's a universal machine in which you can use any other manufacturer's dies, too.

I have a Big Shot and when I first got my Nesties I followed the recommended 'sandwich' recipes, which state to use Tab 2 of the Multi Purpose Platform. But, like you, I got embossing marks. So I experimented with using Tab 1 and CS shims (pieces of CS) until I got the perfect results I wanted.

I happened to have some thin pearlescent CS pieces that were just the right size for shims and I added one piece at a time until I was happy. They are nowhere near as thick as SU! CS - so I'd recommend using what you have and just adding one piece at a time until you get the perfect sandwich recipe for your machine. For Nestie cutting I now use (from the bottom up):

MPP open at Tab 1
5 pieces of thin CS as shims
clear mat
Nestie die
CS
second clear mat

for embossing I use:

MPP open at Tab 1
5 pieces of thin CS as shims
clear mat
Nestie die
CS
tan embossing mat
clear mat

I make sure to use a new clear mat that I have not used for cutting on top when I emboss now. Sometimes the scratch marks from the cutting mat have shown up on an embossed piece.

That recipe works perfectly for me and my Big Shot - have a play around until you get what works for you! Good luck and have fun! :-D

Your recipe works perfectly, I just tried it in my Big Shot! I was getting a little bit of embossing every time I cut something, too, but not with your recipe. Thanks for posting that!
