Default best ink pad for stamping on vellum?

I'm seeing a wealth of cute Valentine ideas, many incorporating stamped images on vellum paper as an embellishment. For those of you who do a lot of this, which ink pads give the cleanest image with a minimum of smearing when you're stamping on vellum?

Thanks in advance.

As it's more like a slick surface than regular paper, you need something that will cope with that. I really like the Brilliance inks on vellum - they'll dry on there and they give good dense coverage but clean-up is easy (unlike Stazon which many people would choose for slick surfaces). Graphite Black is a great all-round black ink and Pearlescent Chocolate is great if you want something that's just a bit softer than black but still dark and dense. You'll need to give it a reasonable amount of drying time but I've never had problems with it smearing as I stamp.

HTH!

I've used many of my stamp pads with success, by dusting the vellum surface with my powder tool before stamping. I've had success printing on vellum by using the powder tool prior to printing as well. I also do this to get a clear print on ribbon. Just make sure the ink is dry before touching. Anyone else use this method?

I have for years and years been using Ancient Page Coal Black. It hasn't ever smeared and dries fast on vellum. I love it and use it all the time when I work with vellum.

Thanks for the answers! My versafine is gorgeous in color, but smears like crazy.

Is Ancient Page the brand of the ink pad or just the color?

Just a guess, but I think Ancient Page is the brand and Coal Black is the color. I've never heard of it so I tried Google.

Ancient Page is the brand and comes in a wide range of colours - it's actually made by Clearsnap/Colorbox but I don't see it on their web site and have a vague feeling I've seen discussion of it being discontinued, perhaps somebody can confirm/deny that?

It's a distinctive shape pad, you'd know if you had one in your stash!
