Ya know??? I was just thinking...I placed an order on Zappos.com for some Australian Sheep Skin slippers. My husbands birthday is Feb. 29th (ya Leap Year) and these are his favorite ones and he has worn his last pair out...oh ya...to the point...WELL, I ordered them last night at around 10pm (ish) and would you believe that they arrived at my door by my favorite UPS driver TODAY before 3pm!!!! Wouldn't that be GREAT if our DICK BLICK's orders arrived in less than 24hrs from when we placed or orders. OH HEAVEN!!!

All I know is, if I do put through this order ---for the very time I will be shipping it to WORK instead of HOME. Hubby works 2nd shift & the darn mail comes in the morning. I had 2 small packages come last week --& while he never questions & never even knows what's in them, I hate that he sees them! It's really bad when you start shipping stuff to your work so the other half doesn't know....lol...
All Right Now!!! You make me want to go and hug MY collection and remind them how much I love them and how much joy they bring me. (Hmmm they are totally house broken, potty trained, they don't talk back, they are not disobedient, they just sit there like PERFECT little COLORFUL ANGELS) Oh yah!!! They need so love right now.
Valerie
HAHHAHAHAHA! this thread makes me feel the same way!!! altho i use my copics quite alot i don't have that same feeling of emotional attachment like i do with my pencils either......
That is soo pretty, cerridwem! Wonderful job with your pencils.
Val, that is amazing delivery time!
I used to have my "stuff" mailed to my work. Now I am back in school and work from home so I can't do that anymore. My husband said something once until I pointed out I don't keep track or question his purchases. . Neither one of us goes crazy with spending.

I LOVE your card...you coloring is FANTASTIC and I just adore the image. I love the labels you used and I am SO glad that I have that one from Cricut. I guess I never really payed too much attention to the cut b/c the Pamphlet is SO small. You said that you colored your image W/O gamsol? That's awesome!!!
Valerie
Mindykid!!!
Save yourself!!!! Oh...too late I guess??? Don't you wish that your order would arrive tomorrow!!! I don't know what zappos does but the craft industry need to get on board with that fast shipping!!!
Valerie
P.S. Oh by the way...you need to share what you ordered...it is kinda like an cyber-Haul!
I have only ever used the Stampin’Up! watercolor pencils and crayons. The pencils are OK, and they are more vibrant after you add a water wash. I LOVE the crayons so much that I used up most of the first set I bought years ago and had to order a second set about a year ago.
After reading this thread, I went to our local supply store, but they only had a few loose Derwent colored pencils. Michaels had several tins of 3 or 4 different brands including Derwent and Prisma, but I ended up ordering from Dick Blick (I love saying that out loud!) because the prices were so much better on the kits of pencils than what I could find locally.
Derwent Inktense Pencils and Prisma Watercolor Pencils (a set of each so I can play with both to see which I like), a handful of Derwent Aquatones, a few ounces of gamsol, 3 new high quality, tiny paintbrushes, and some watercolor paper.
This weekend’s crop is already set aside to finish my daughter’s scrapbook, but after that, it’s time to replenish my supply of cards to keep on-hand. I can’t wait to start playing with NEW pencils.
Now I am browsing the gallery looking at people’s coloring techniques. It used to intimidate me a little bit, but I am starting to see how the colors blend, how shadows and highlights are placed, etc. I think I can do it too!!!
i had never used gamsol before i started stamping and i just couldn't seem to get it right - i feel my piece looks washed out. tho i haven't given up and it is probably good in some areas.
i have a cart still open at dick blick - need do finish some ad work and get some money in before i order! i am getting some samples of other pencils to try - coloursoft, pablo and luminance.
Well I went to the consignment shop today --I take all my kids toys & clothes there to sell --& I got $61!! That's practically $80 --so now I don't feel bad about actually submitting my order
I've been using pencils & Gamsol since I started stamping --about 5 yrs now. I actually use Goo Gone --I think it blends better & it's cheap.....I get mine at the dollar store.
I will be in Phoenix when my pencils and pastels arrive :{ But they will be a nice welcome home gift
I'm tempted to bring some of my pencils with me down to Phoenix, but my schedule will be so crazy I probably won't get a chance to use them - and I don't want them to distract me from getting my work done - haha.
I just asked my husband if I could use his oil pastel. He said yes but am I sure I don't need 647 different colors?
I told him "why, yes, I think I DO need 647 different color pastels!"
He laughed and said he only needs 7.
Well, he paid 50,000+ going to college for graphic arts to learn how to make due with 7 colors. Therefore, I'm actually saving money by buying all different colors...right?
That is SO True!!!
I was thinking the other day...You know the saying, "Crafting is cheaper than Therapy!"
Well our insurance plan does not cover "mental health" so I figure that an hour with a therapist/psychiatrist is about $300/hour and they will probably WANT to see you at least 2 X's a week. Well that is $600/week and about $2,400 per month??? Right??? By my calculations...I am coming in WAY under Budget if my CRAFT is less than $2,400 a month!!!
I am saving my family a TON with my "self-help" method!!!

{happy sigh} - so nice when someone puts it all in perspective ROFL!
I have been wanting to start using my pencils more. I have a question about blending. Is using Gamsol the same thing as using the SU blender pens?
This is a really interesting thread, it is inspiring me.
I prefer using Gamsol. Some people use baby oil also. I'm not sure but I think each one creates a different affect. For me, the Gamsol creates the look I like. I would suggest using both a blender pen and odorless mineral spirits (Gamsol is a brand name) and seeing which look you like best.
I don't have SU blender pen, I have Prisma and Dick Blick brand. I like OMS (gamsol) better than the pens. I used my prisma last night and it smells, it is not odorless. I like the how gamsol looks also.
The SU Blender pen works great with watercolor pencils, but it doesn't have a solvent in it that breaks down the pigment of a regular colored pencil like OMS does.
Like I said before, I use Goo Gone. I think it blends better than OMS, which is what I used when I started with pencils. I think I ran out & I could only find it online & didn't want to wait & I remembered reading about Goo Gone so I ran to the Dollar Store & voila! Now it's all I use!
I just got the deal of the century on Ebay!! I won 4 sets of Derwent pencils, various styles, along with a 6 pk of copic sketch markers for $30!! The Derwents were all 12 pks!! I think I did pretty well!! NOw I'm stalking the mailbox for their arrival~!! LOL
I have just read this inquiry from the beginning. You ladies just answered most of my questions regarding colored pencils. I have dabbled with them in the past, but wasn't always pleased with my results. Now I just have to go out and buy another $100 dollars or so worth of a 100 or so different brands and I will be set! Just kidding, you have helped me tremendously. Luckily my local craft store is Crafts2000 and they actually have a decent selection of pencils; not Dick Blick standards but okay. I have my list, I already have some pencils, but I don't think my selection is quite varied enough in the color families. I was looking into the Copic markers but the cost scares the bgees out of me. I have used both OMS and GooGone but not baby oil. So, wish me luck on my journey to find my niche. Of course, this is a dangerous journey for me cause I am already addicted to paper, cricut, spellbinders, embossing folders and a few others!
Hi Penny, I'm glad our discussion was helpful for your. If you are still looking into markers, check out ShinHan Touch Twin markers. Like Copics but cheaper. There are on clearance right now through Dick Blick and Jerry's Artarama.com. Clearing out old stock before the introduction of their refillable/replaceable nib markers in early spring this year. Great clearance prices.
Update: I was on a mission today at Crafts2000, the local big scrap store. They carry the Prismacolor individually and in sets for just a couple more dollars than Blick. Also in stock are the Derwent Pastel Pencils individually and in sets also, but they were a lot more than Blick. So, I am going to order some from Blick in all three brands, Prisma, Derwent and Blick and see how it goes. Thanks again for all the help! I did get a Tim Holtz Distress Ink in soot black to stamp some images to see how it works. My next question is: I use a lot of digital images, how do I keep the black inkjet ink from smearing?
I have prismas, derwent inktenses, aquatones, and i must get out my crayolas, gotta find them first! I've used my prismas on
Xpress it blending card made especially for copics, the result is quite good as the blending card is silky smooth.
I have been reading a couple of colored pencil books, one on watercolor pencils and one on regular pencils and they both say the same thing. Every brand of pencil has its particular quirks and niche and you will find that you need several brands in your "arsenal" to achieve various effects.
How's that for enabling and giving everyone a "reason" to buy more.
Jumping right in here. I love, love, love pencils and Dick Blick frequently gets me in trouble. I got the 72 piece Inktense tin for Valentine's day from the hubs. The man knows the way to this girls heart!
I will say that while water brings out the best in them, you can get quite a bit of vibrancy from OMS. Take a look at my color charts. I knew I'd be using both blending mediums, so I made one for each to grab and go.
The one on the left is blended with Zest-It (OMS) and the one on the right with water (H2O). You can really see the difference in the darkest colors. Either way, the colors are just gorgeous!
