I am slowly trying to become a stamper. I have volunteered for several swaps. Here is my question:
Should most cards no matter the color theme be done on white cardstock? For example, I signed up for a brown theme. I choose brown CS for the base. However, I saw a card someone made and it was embellished with brown colors. It made sense thinking about the base color for the inside of the card for written or stamped sentiment.
Thanks for your comments
If you look in the gallery, you will see many many cards that have no white cardstock on them at all. I only use white once in a while. It is all about personal preference. If you like to use white, then use it. Some will never use white as a cardbase. I do sometimes. Other times I use it on the card front. You make an entire card with colored cardstock. Browse the gallery for some color combo ideas. Here is a color Combo website to help you choose a ccolor scheme. http://www.scraptitude.com/colorcombo/
I tend to always use white or ivory as my card base. If I want a colored front I just cut the colored pieve the same size as the card and attach to the front only. This way I get 4 pieces out of the one sheet of colored card stok instead of only 2. I do this especially if I make several of the same cards as I buy my white in bulk and it is cheaper. I also like the white on the inside to write on.

Totally personal preference. I'm not a big fan of very dark cardstock on the insides of cards, so if you want a dark base, you could add a white layer inside the card; use duplex cardstock (always white on the inside) as sold by www.memoryboxco.com, or do as anniesmom suggested.

honey I will tell you like my friend told me when I started this some time ago ( she is an art teacher) you can never make a mistake why because the creation is your creation. =) So go for it have fun do it to match your personality I have been known to start a card and make 3 different ones before I get what I really think I needed LOL then I then I have extra cards right LOL well have fun and enjoy yourself that is all that matters.~~~bluegirl~~

I like colored bases. So I always put a white/vanilla/light neutral or matching color on the inside cut down to 4 1/8 by 5 3/8. I like that because stamping a matching image on the inside is something I always do and then I'm able to color it to match the rest of the card. Plus I like a little color contrast on the insides of my cards, not just the all white look. I like the border of color. Whatever you choose to do will be right for you!
If my card stock base is dark in color, I cut a piece of white and attach it inside the card so the sender can have somewhere to write. Sometimes the sender would be me. Sometimes the cards would be a gift.
I use what ever color I want for the base. I always use a cream, ivory or natural color #24 linen, laid or silk paper for the inside of the card.
If I do use a white base for my card, then I use white #24 linen, laid or silk paper for the inside.
I print the inside of my cards on my computer so they are neat and readable. That way I can also coordinate the font on the inside with the cover sentiment.
I put a coordinating graphic on the top portion of the inside of my card (reverse of front cover). I also put this on the lower left corner of the envelope. My envelopes are done in the same paper as the card base (usually). Occassionally I will use hand-made paper for the envelope if it coordinates with the card.
I put my personal logo on the back of the card in the middle and also on the flap of the envelope. (this is very small graphic and font in .7)

i went to see your creations!
alas... no gallery.
your creations sound very pretty and well thought out. i like that you put so much thought into your work.
I don't think there is a right answer for your question. We all have different styles and preferences. Do what feels good to you. When I first started stamping I used a lot of white as the main part of my card and stamped the background. I rarely EVER use white now or stamp my background. Check out the gallery and try to find what makes you excited about stamping. You have to have a PASSION for your style or it becomes someone else's. Be your own YOU!
momis mama......I don't see any need to post the cards I create. The cards I create are all personalized to the recipient. I just have my own thoughts about those that post (I mean no offense to anyone, please). I enjoy seeing some of them, but would never want to post. I also use more heat embossing than those in the gallery I see. I also don't use much of the embellishments shown in the gallery nor much layering other than matting. My designer paper is designed by me with watermarks.
I do use printed paper for boxes, totes, special envelopes at times.
Heat embossing the paper then folding into a box/bag can be very impressive.
I rarely use white on the front of my cards. But almost always (if base is dark) mount a white piece inside for writing on. That's where most of my white gets used.

As I do not know you, I can not know how you meant this to come across. I heard it as a little bit harsh. I did not get the impression that Momis Mama was coming down on you for not having a gallery- but that she was so looking forward to seeing your creations and she was disappointed when she couldn't see your beautiful work.
Having a gallery is not a requirement of SCS but the people who are kind enough to share their work, at any level of talent, certainly do us all a favour. Their willingness to share their creativity and passion is what makes SCS a source of inspiration to us all!
Sorry if you did not intend your response to sound "haughty" for lack of a better word.

i try NOT to rub people the wrong way, but some how seem to do it anyway. i will be shutting up now!
Momis mama, please don't shut up! I always enjoy your comments and input!;) And I love browsing the gallery and finding inspiration from all the beautiful cards that are uploaded by all of you talented ladies! Please keep sharing! One of these days I'll muster up the courage to upload something! In the meantime, the gallery will continue to be a large source of inspiration for beginners like me!

I prefer the DoubleMates/Colormates. Not many people here use them, but I just can't seem to get enough of the wonderful colors and textures! You can check them out at www.worldwinpapers.com...
Use whatever color you like. I use white when I color with chalks or water color pencils or markers. Most of those usually go on a colored base. Just made 36 cards over the weekend (I think, who knows how many, not important!) and used dark green and dark brown cardstock. However, I did line each card w/beige or white paper, so the sender will have some place to write.
But as others have said, do what YOU like best!
