I don't know how I stamped before this site. I have learned a ton here and really become excited about stamping!
My SU classic black is getting dry. I was trying to decide on a reinker or branching out to a different brand. What is your favorite black or do you even notice a difference. Where do you get your black pads?
Believe it or not--the cheapie Black Ink pads--Stampabilities & Memories work pretty well. Juicy and didn't dry out as fast as the Black SU pad...
My ONLY other complaint about the SU PAD---is WHEN it comes off the roller track...the lid separates from the pad...then it MAKES a HUGE mess--my hands look like I've been working on a car engine!! Sometimes, i just give up and throw them in the garbage--a HUGE waste of MONEY!:p
I like my Palette Hybrid Noir...it stamps a crisp image and doesn't bleed if you are watercolouring. It's a true black colour too...SU's tends to be purpleish. HTH! Oh, and I got mine through TAC.

VersaFine Onyx Black, Baby!!! It's great for line AND solid stamps!! True black, not purple-y. I use this for Prismacolor-Gamsol Technique and it does not smear, move or lift.

I recemtly purchased the Palette Hybrid Noir and I love it. I have the black stazon but I just can't bring myself to permanently staining my stamps! lol Maybe one day I'll get over it.
I love Palette Noir- and have to Disagree with Joan, I love the cover- find it easy to take off, and I often use the cover as an "handle" for my unmounted stamps, because it fits nicely into my hands. I also like that these pads stack nicely.
I also like my brilliance ink Jet black- when I need pigment inks.

I've used stazon many times- and not all my stamps are stained. Ultra Clean will take it off. (It's the cleaner TAC sells, and I also think Gina K sells it)
I use the versafine onyx black first, then stazon. My su black needs to be put out in the trash, but I can't bring myself to do it. I may just add it to my son's stamp collection. I bought a versafine pad for my friend at michaels and could use a coupon.

I also use the cover of my Palette Noir as a mount for my "signature" unmounted stamp for the back of my cards. I like everything about this ink pad.

love the palette noir, and for the longest time didn't realize that the lid flips over to fit on the bottom of the ink area..makes for a much sturdier pad!

I'll throw another into the mix - Ancient Page Coal Black - it says "Acid-Free Archival Waterproof". It's my favorite! Joan, I have trouble with the lid of the Palette ones too! <G>

Which black is the best for clear stamp and copic markers?
I've gotten great results using Brilliance Graphite Black, heat setting, and then using Copics.
I've gotten good results using Palette Hybrid Noir, then using Copics, but, if I go over the lines, the Noir seems to feather/blur slightly. It could be the paper I'm using, tho? Not sure . . .
I haven't tried it yet with CLEAR stamps, but Ranger Adirondack in Pitch Black works most excellent with Copics, but, I've only stamped with red rubber so far, no clear stamps . . . will be trying that soon.

The Adirondack feathers on Georgia Pacific CS. I haven't had any problems with Palette on GP. The Brilliance is a nice ink, but I don't use it much just because I have to heat set it.
I sometimes stamp the night before with the Brilliance ink. By morning it's ready to color. I know....... I'm a dork

I think I have every pad mentioned here - perhaps I have an ink pad problem.
I recently fell in love with the Ranger Archival Jet Black ink pad. It gives a solid clear impression - absolutely love it. They also have it in a brown that is really great for fall.
In the past I've used the Pallete's Hybrid Noir - love the "hybrid" part. It works well as a dye ink and also as a pigment.
I'm always going to be an addict to my Jet Black Stazon though. I don't mind it staining my stamps, though I don't have that problem thanks to Stewart Superior's Ultra Clean. It's even worked wonders on old stained stamps. That stuff is amazing!
VersaFine Onyx Black is the best! Not only is it archival, but it dries fast and is a deep, rich black. It does not stain and picks up the finer details of images beautifully. You won't be sorry to have it in your inventory!
I was reading through this because I too get frustrated with the purply-black of SU craft ink.... I'm okay with the classic, so my question is are all the inks you've mentioned classic type inks or do any of them come in the craft type??
Thanks!!

Jeanne, what I'm finding most hilarious, is the extensive testing it takes to find the "right" combination of paper, ink and Copics, that yields the results we want!
In the beginning, I though it would be as simple as "X" brand ink. That's it.
Now, I'm finding I have to consider:
type/brand of card stock
type of ink (pigment, dye, feathering or no, depending on the paper used, etc.)
effect of Copics (causes ink to feather/bleed)
performance of ink on rubber vs. clear stamps
effect of heat-setting vs. not heat-setting
are the images embossed or not
It's like an on-going science experiment, I tell ya'! :p LOL!

They are *uber* cool!
I was comparing them to the Sakura Stardust, and I discovered that the Spica's glitter color is true to the color of the ink, and transparent, too, whereas the Stardust has a "silvery" shimmer, and somewhat opaque effect. So, depending on what you want, the effects between the two pens are different, which caught me by surprise!
Fascinating!
