I love GinaK's heavyweight CS, and her black is fabulous.

Gina K Designs is the best, but a very close second is the Recollections 110lb at Michaels. You have to make sure you are getting the 110 lb, and you have to buy it in a big package of 100 sheets, but if you want something you can pick up locally and can use a coupon on, it's a great option.
Third place - Hobby Lobby carries their own brand of cardstock, and they have heavyweight in black which is also pretty good; you don't have to buy as big a pack as the Recollections, and it goes on sale for 50% off frequently.
Recollections 110# is the best for many reasons. The price is 14.99 for 100 sheets. Use a 40% or 50% and it is a really great price, not to mention you get it immediately. The color is a real black. And it folds and creases perfectly. The recollections paper is not available in other colors in packages of four different colors. The Coffee and Cream also has black in case you don't want 100 sheets of one color.
I bought some recollections from Michaels with a coupon. It's fine. But when that's gone I'll be buying Neenah Classic Crest in Epic Black 100 pound weight. Way better paper.
I have both the PTI and the Gina K. Almost all of my cardstock is PTI because I love their colors, but in terms of black, I have to say the Gina K is blacker.

I don't know the prices on Neenah at various places. I have a local wholesale paper distributor that I buy from on a "semi-wholesale" price. But I can't compare that to any other supplier.
Here's Neenah Classic Crest colors. I think I caught them all. However I don't guarantee the color reproduction. I had to pull these off the internet since I'm not home to photograph my swatchbook.
I really like the black. The red is a pure bright red. The antique gray is a perfect shade of gray for those cards when you want white with gray...but not too dark and not too pale.
I use 110# black, white & cream from Michael's Recollections line. I've used heavy cardstock from other companies and in my opinion the Recollections brand is comparable and perfect for card bases. And it is a much better value. I always use a coupon to buy it. I also use their 65# black for layering.
GOOD to know; I mainly have PTI and haven't tried Gina K's black...might have to change that!! ;)
Thank you!

I tried the PT white (not black) and found it too heavy. Then I tried the Recollections 110, but think it is way too lightweight, so am now using SU Basic Black as I think it is just right. I often layer, so I do't need a super heavy base card, but I want it to have enough body to hold up to layering.

You may have gotten a bad batch of Recollections. I also have the black recollections in 110 lb and it is much thicker than my SU. I also have the Recollections Ivory 110 lb that is also very thick, similar to Neenah heavy weight.

I'd better try again, although I'm not unhappy with what I have.
